I presume the cars will use the Galilleo satellite system?

(I understand that the accuracy needed for safety critical applications requires centimetre accuracy and GPS is too vague, but Gallilleo is accurate enough)

There's already one London underground line which has trains capable of driving themselves. The technology has been available for some years but the trade unions are trying to block the introduction into service of such trains.

Not to mention the fact that driving along a set track isn't exactly the hardest thing to program.
