Default Booker writes about EU & road charging and wind turbines

Anti-EU columnist Christopher Booker writes about the EU and road charging and ugly wind turbine eyesores in today’s Sunday Telegraph:

On wind turbines, Booker is correct in my opinion.
What he might have added is that, to meet its 151MW from wind, Devon would need at least 300 turbines.

Default Wind turbine eyesores don't work for most of the time

Yes, I've long admired Christopher Booker's articles againts ugly wind turbines - most of which don't work for at least two thirds of the time.

I'm in favour of solar and wave (water) power - but they, like wind, are reliant on weather conditions.

Apart from nuclear and coal/gas fired-power stations, there is no other way of providing electricity around the clock.

What is often forgotten about these wind turbine eyesores is that they would each have to work for over 40 years to produce the amount of energy which was used in making them.

Their blades also kill birds as well as spoil scenic country views.

The prospect of a beautiful county like Devon being spoilt by hundreds of wind turbine eyesores being sighted there is an appalling one.

The EU is ultimately to blame - it pressurises the UK Government to meet its 10% 'renewable energy' target by 2010 resulting in the Blair Lie-bour regime changing planning laws so the objections of elected local councils to these wind turbine eyesores can be ignored.

A bit old, but here's New Scientist article that puts a bit of a dampner on HEP:

But you can't build those everywhere and you might need alot of them to supply a whole nation's energy requirements.

I understand that Uganda has a successful hydroelectric power industry and even exports some electricity to neighbouring countries.
