It's barbaric; besides, there are plenty more than enough willing to sign up voluntarily!

There are plenty of other ways one can support one's country. Though, I might be a little more sympathetic to the military duty concept if one has a fundamental right to do what the Germans call Ersatzdienst - "substitute service", i.e. a stint of community work in lieu of joining the army. (AIUI though, under the German system this is strictly speaking a privilege, not a right: you have to convince the relevant authorities you're a truly committed pacifist in order to qualify for Ersatzdienst.)
********!.

We should join and serve our nation.

b******s!.

We should join and serve our nation.
And what of those who feel they would be better suited to serving their nation through non-military means?

I agree with Feldoon.
I, for example, cannot serve this country directly due to my ill health. I would still like to cotribute something though and thus would happily consider a job such as a civil servant, politician or any other manner of job in which I could serve my country.
And you cannot say that because I'm disabled I have a right to serve in another manner; the disabled need support, yes, but no-one can have any more rights than anyone else.
No to conscription.
Yes to compulsory service for one's country.

My policy supports national service, but the militay aspect is but a single (albeit large) component.

You can volunteer for the military (many I reckon would, I would) but if not (disability, conscientious objector etc) you could erve the nation through non-military Logistics, health care, civil service, fire brigade etc.

Only people exempt would be convicted felons or mentally disabled.

The military is a good starting point for a career in fashion. You'd be surprised how many leaders in the world of fashion have done military duty.

I think the amount of time spent in around the company of other men for such long periods opens up the masculine sensual side of the psyche and allows one man to understand another much more closely. I have often considered the miltary myself, but my parents have always been strict with me and insisted I go to law school. For one man to voluntarily submerge himself into a solely male world, living, breathing, smelling the bodies of other men day in and day out is a beautiful thing.
