Default Links, & cut & paste

I don't want to point the finger, but...

Can anybody explain to me the value of postings that are simply links to news websites, or cut & paste jobs of other people's work? The latter is usually accompanied by an inane criticism of something the poster generally does not fully understand. (And I am afraid that this comes across all too often.)

I think there might be an argument for moderators to take down such posts: all they do is clutter up what has the potential to be a really useful resource.

Otherwise, possibly there could be a section on the forum marked 'links & cut & pastes' so that those of us who have already read the newspapers do not need to waste our time scrolling through this nonsense.

Default Links to news articles

Links to specific articles on 'news websites' save using up space on this site - space which which would be taken up by those same articles if no link were provided and the articles were copied on to the pages of this forum.

You have a point. Posting a link shows the source of information. Sometimes not all of the information on the link is particularly relevant so posting the relevant section would appear to one way of submitting the information on this forum.
I think, provided it is kept to sensible levels, it should be permitted.

Links are useful I read only one national paper and generally only watch news from 2 TV channels so links to other sources are very useful. From the context of the link again it is usually easy to assess whether I really want to bother e.g the regular posting of links to far out anti-US/America odd balls /news items leaves me cold.

Posting a link is of value where it saves the poster typing in the content. Their intention may only be to bring the issue to the attention of others. I can't see why it is a problem.

Links are useful to show a source, or to point to something which may be of interest. Not all of us trawl all the news sites.

Cut and pastes are useful to save us from having to go to other sites. Pasted here it's just text. On another site you might have to wait for a video advert to load. So it's very handy for those of us who are occasionally bandwidth-challenged.
