A public figure on the island of Guernsey (not part of the UK but under the British Crown and represented by the UK on defence and foreign affairs matters) dismissed the island's rulers as "spineless" in the face of interference from London and Brussels.”

The "interference from London" in Guernsey is as a result of the UK Treasury being pressurised by the EU to try to stop people setting up accounts outside the EU area.
The EU has put exactly the same pressure on non-EU Switzerland  . This is the EU meddling and flexing its muscles. It is getting too big for its boots. Another example of the EU meddling in nation's not within the EU area was the EU Commissioner for Foreign Affairs trying to stick his nose into the internal affairs of Russia and tell President Putin what to do. This stopped when President Putin rightly told them to stop it - and also because continental EU nations are increasingly reliant on gas supplies from Russia  . |

This reminds me of the whole Isle of Man thing. The Island still retained anti-homosexuality laws up until recently and the EU threw up a big fuss of fury at this, even though the Isle of Man whilst a Crown Dependency is not a member state of the EU.
Can the Isle of Man vote for its own MEP? For that matter can Guernsey vote for its own MEP? Answers on a postcard! Up until recently Gibraltar was unable to vote for an MEP until its votes were lumped in with the South-West of England. |
