I like Usenet. But I almost always use the Google web usenet gateway now.
Yes, it looks interesting. Thanks for recommending it 8) . I've made a note to go back again tomorrow. I feel like a moan about losing the Sky channels from the Freeview box :? .
You're welcome, and enjoy your 'moan'
Thank you, Alex.

I don't supposed they are too pleased at Sky Television News either. They must know that if they are taken off the 'Freeview' set top-box they will lose up to half their audience. And that could mean job cuts  .

The problem with the Sky change is viewers will need a new set tp box in order to be able to receive the channels. Sky will use MEPG-4 encoding which requires a special STB to decode the channels. All otehr freeview (DVB-T) broadcasts are MPEG-2.
I would imagine the loss in advertising revenue form the 3 current channels will not be made up soon as the time it will take to get enough viewers due to them buying a new box will be a long time.

I think I actually mentioned in an earlier posting to this thread that people would have to buy a new set-top digital box to receive the Sky pay-to-view channels on the Freeview platform. It was also stated on another website I provided a link to from this thread.

Sky have lost subscribers in the past few months perhaps this is a way to get people back.

Personally I would consider dropping the Sky Sport and Movie channels as Sky is getting to pricey

Default Sky Television may face competition

They may face competition from Virgin shortly and would have to be careful of getting too expensive.

I have relativces who pay for the whole lot with Sky Television - the option which gives them the most Sky film and sports channels.

I would imagine that if Virgin (or someone else) ever came up with an attractive alternative they might consider it.

One such option for them in the future might be downloading films over the 'phone line rather than relying on Sky Television's scheduling of films.

If another company offered this at a fair price, they might switch from Sky Television.

It beats me that people are prepared to pay a hefty fee every month to get bombarded with adverts (even within films).

As opposed to the slightly less hefty fee to the BBC for even more self promotion

Default BBC advertises one product - itself

Yes, it's a mistake to assume that the BBC are not a commercial operator.

They are. They have lots of commercials - for themselves.

The key objective of the BBC is not to please the viewers. It is to promote itself so the fat salaries for its huge workforce keep on getting paid.
