I hate to be sad and petty but: pictures are hung, people are hanged.

First of all - sad, tragic story.

Second of all - lazy, poor journalism.

A man is dead and The Sun (the nation's 'most popular' newspaper) handle it like this. He was merely called a 'Chav', this doesn't mean he was a 'Chav' or murdered because he was a 'Chav'.

I really hate the phrase now and it has lost all of its original (not that it had much) meaning.

The word chav does have meaning. In general, it describes the undesirables who cause me to call the Police out at 2/3am on a Saturday/Sunday morning.

Just that its meaning has now become distorted and stretched beyond all recognition.

Nor do I think it is appropriate to through a phrase around and label, as the Sun have done, a young man who has been killed for being a 'Chav'.

Chavs are no different to any other yooth culture, like Punks, Skins, Teds etc. The difference is probably the sheer quantity of them not working and going unpunished for the crimes they commit. more of these crimes were picked up when there were more Police.but you have always had youth being stabbed,set upon because of their dress/fashion.
But in general I agree with the sentiment that people who carry and are willing to knife somebody should be liable to a similar punishment. Live by the Sword...
