A bit of confusion seems to reigning here. NLP is NLP as described by C Steam. The wrist tapping thing is a new form of therapy called EFT, or Emotional Freedom Technique. It's very new and I don't know much about it. It allegedly works by tapping into the power of the bodies meridiens, the same channels of energy used in classical accupuncture. Google away, should you be curious, or go here http://www.emofree.com/
NLP has been around since the mid 1970s and in the hands of a competent practitioner is a very effective method of therapy. It does have it's critics, none of whom seem to be able to cure a phobia as effectively as a trained NLPer. I have a practitioner certificate in NLP, and a diploma in Ericsonian Hypnotherapy, but I don't practice either in any theraputic setting. I would thoroughly recommened an NLP course for anyone. It was a real eye opener for me ! |

C Steam, sorry it took so long to reply.
I did an introduction to NLP with Pace Personal Developments in London in 1994. PPD was at that time run by a guy called Julian Russel. He was trained by Richard Bandler and John Grinder, when they were both still working together. Julian is a good NLP teacher in my estimation, but he can be a bit precious about it ! I don't know if PPD is still going, but I daresay Julian is still teaching somewhere. In 1995 I did a full practitioner certificate with Change Works, up at Kennilworth, by Coventry. I was living in the midlands back then. The guy running it was a consultant psychiatrist named Dr Willy Montiero, he had worked on Richard Bandler's international training team for six years. His assistant was a guy called Brad (can't remember his surname) who had worked with Anthony Robbins for a few years. I found this a better organisation than PPD, but that's probably just me. Training with them was much more fun, and I felt I learnt far better. In 1995 I did a diploma in Ericsonian hypnotherapy and NLP psychotherapy with British Hypnosis Research, in London. It was at that time run by a guy named Steve Brooks. I got half way through the course and decided I did not want to be a hypnotherapist, because I felt it would not suit me. Steve appeared to have no formal qualifications in NLP, a fact I did not know before I signed up for the course. He also treated some of his staff abysmally, by not paying them. This can all be taken as a bit of a warning to do your research before you embark on NLP training. My advice would be find out if the trainers were trained by Bandler or Grinder, or their top trainers. Try and talk to people who have trained with the organisation in question. Of course Paul McKenna teaches NLP in London with Richard Bandler in London once or twice a year. Other than the above caveat I would still recommend NLP. It made me far more aware of other peoples mental processes, as well as my own. The eye accessing clues are very useful. Sometimes you can tell if you are being lied to or not ! Some NLP exercises work really well. For example prior to NLP I bit my nails so badly they were often bloody or infected. By running a series or exercises known as the Swish I drasticaly reduced my nail biting. Now I almost never bite my nails on my little and ring fingers, except maybee to shorten them when they are in danger of becomming snagged. More often I will use a pair of nail scissors. My other nails I occasonaly bite, but never severely, more a slight chew rather than a bite. NLP also has some very good phobia cures. It can also be used to remove compulsions. |
