Default Scotland's freedom

Quote:
Scotland's freedom

Sir – Jeff Randall (Comment, January 19) is correct to write: "Anyway, the Union was never simply a financial construct. It's about shared values." But I am alarmed that he appears to contemplate the possibility of an independent Scotland adopting the euro. It has been reported that the prospect of Scotland breaking away from the UK could already have had an adverse effect on the pound.

What are the values that the Scots and English have always shared? Chief among them is freedom. The freedom of the individual from arbitrary arrest and wrongful or malicious imprisonment, protected by habeas corpus and trial by jury. And economic freedom from any overbearing shackles of the state. These values are not acknowledged anywhere in continental Europe. With majority voting, and no right of national veto, they will be overridden and taken away from us.

The SNP policy of "an independent Scotland in the EU" is purblind. The EU would negotiate terms before accepting a separate Scotland as a member state.

And after three centuries of Scottish policing, Scots would find themselves policed by gendarmes. Every Scot should visit the website of the European Gendarmerie Force www.eurogendfor.org and see the riot-control battalions of French, Spanish, Italian and Dutch police in this pan-European body, with their chosen emblem, a "flaming grenade, symbolising the common military root of European police forces" – a root alien to Scots and English.

Yet if Scotland votes SNP, that is what it will get, inevitably, in the end.

Good old Torquil.

The LibLabCon could be blowing this trumpet LOUD and clear, if they really wanted to expose the SNP for the sham that they are. They know their own positions are so weak, that they dare not do it.

I believe UKIP could have a strong role in this, by utilising some of the big donations coming in at the moment, to do a full on media campaign in Scotland exposing the SNP as a wolf in sheeps clothes.

A party that wraps itself up in the independence banner, when in reality would hand Scotland over to an unlected body in a flash. Just point out htis fact in clear unambigous terms with UKIPs policy on referendums and a psuh to democratic local power.

It would signal UKIPs intentions to fight for all of Britain and show the SNP for what they are. It would be a huge step in UKIPs evolution.

Indeed, we very proudly have a wholly civilian force.
