I read an article in today's paper about the 'doomsday clock'.
What or who do you think will be the cause of WW3? I don't mean who will eventually become involved, but which one will be the first to initiate the conflict or strike the 'first blow'? |

I'm reminded of a quote from some scientist who was asked what weapons would be used in World War 3. He said, "I don't know what weapons will be used in WW3, but I do know what weapons will be used in WW4: bows and arrows!"

Saying that, Iran are also ones to worry about, and lets not forget North Korea! George Bush has the largest nuclear arsenal and he's quite stupid? |

I voted for Russia due to its increasing flexing of muscle on the supply of energy issues. I can see this causing a barrel load of problems for the West in the future, as, like a drug supplier, once they get their victims 'hooked', they can effectively control their daily lives to suit the wishes and desires of the 'pusher'.
Add to that its (Russia) dubious flirtation with democracy and the increasing power and influence of the Kremlin in such matters, then the recipe for conflict increases dramatically. Gazprom, or whatever it is called has recently reported 37 billion s worth of profit, and that does not include the potential impact of Russian oil, coal or ferrous and non ferrous metals, etc on world markets in the future. We are seeing a new Russian empire in the making. |

Iran is the foremost Islamic fundamentalist country, so it should be included in the same category really. I believe WWIII will start with a massive Iranian missile strike on Israel, provoking an Israeli nuclear response. This will then cause the collapse of secularist regimes across the Islamic world in violent fundamentalist revolutions, and an all-out 'Jihad' against the West will be declared. The US will then be dragged further into the Middle East quagmire, and will remain bogged-down in a prolonged and bloody war. Osama bin Laden will declare himself Caliph and raise a holy resistance army in Saudi Arabia against US forces. Continuous and devastating Islamist terrorist attacks on the West will trigger street battles and then civil war between Muslim immigrants and mainly-Christian indigenous populations in the West. Probable war and a nuclear exchange also between India and a Talibanised Pakistan. WWIII 'the Clash of Civilisations' may last for decades.

Well, someone did ask our opinions on how WWIII would start. I think the 'Clash of Civilisations' between the Islamic world and the West would be the most likely cause of the next global war.
