One shouldn't assume, perhaps, that 'Feldoon' necessarily made that image up just for use on this forum. If s/he/they even made the picture up at all (it might have been done by someone else). |

It. Is. A. Joke. Image. And unless you're willing to censor a lot more on a forum clearly intended for constructive, free discourse, I suggest you keep your unsupported, unverified claims about illegality to yourself. How difficult is this to accept? I fail to see how this can possibly be construed as more offensive than claims that Christianity is the one true religion, Christianity itself (which is meant to be anything but inoffensive), and the practice of parading around likenesses of a man nailed to a cross. As for the topic at hand, there's no reason I can think of why a belief system similar to that of Star Wars should be disallowed. Even if it contains a fictional core, there's nothing barring people from belief. I may laugh, but that does not mean I will not defend their right to make fools of themselves in my eyes. |

When people make sense. Thank you Elf. Here here for a little non-PC, anti-mob-rule thinking, eh? |

Guess what. I got laughs. Guess what. They were Christians. And they got it. Quote:
You'd prefer it if I replaced the U with a * would you? That wouldn't be offensive, surely! |

However, the problem is that religion has a specific status in society and often law, so it's not as simple as saying 'let them do what they please, it's a free country (snigger snigger)' - they can do that now. Official recognition leads to tax breaks, protection under blasphemy laws, lots of other stuff too. That's pretty heavy. People who really believe in the force, hopefully only a handful of instable types, can't be accorded this status because they have taken fiction as fact. |

If I could, I'd change the rules and put them all on even footing with everything else. And I'd destroy Scientology for good. I say if this new belief system is going to take hold, let its proponents work for it. Once they've paid their dues, maybe I'll begin respecting it and them a little bit more. Maybe. Until then, it should stay where it belongs - in the fiction section of any local library. |
