May I recommend that readers watch/record (if they haven't already seen it) "Fear of Fanny" tonight (New Year's Eve) on BBC 2 Television from 9 pm to 10.20 pm.
This excellent, witty and highly amusing portrayal of the life of the first ever television cook, Miss Fanny Cradock, was first broadcast a few weeks ago on BBC 4 Television. It was repeated on BBC 4 Television several times last month and now comes to BBC 2 for the first time this evening. Julia Davis plays the culinary icon and Mark Gatiss takes on the role of her long-suffering husband. Apart from the impossible task of imitating Fanny Cradock's unique voice, Julia Davis is excellent as Fanny Cradock. There are many amusing scenes - especially when a television journalist discovers that one meal prepared by Fanny's team contains contents which are 'still alive'. The scenes of Julia Davis playing Fanny as she cooks for her television viewers are hilarious . In today's world of soaps, Celebrity Love Island and third-rate American imported programmes - 'Fear of Fanny' is a rare thing. A proper British comedy/drama production which appeals to the British sense of humour. 8) You may as well watch it - there's only that Graham Norton on the other side  . |
