Default Europhile businessman gets Knighthood in New Year Honours

James Dyson, the europhile businessman who makes and sells vacuum cleaners, has been given a Knighthood in the New Year's Honours List   (ITV 1 Teletext has reported on page 306 at 0047 hours on 30.12.2006).

Dyson allegedly praised the EU and euro :x and then showed his faith in and commitment to 'euro integration' by closing his factory in southern England and moving the jobs to that well known EU member state - Malaysia  .

Ann Leslie, the Daily Mail columnist who forecast when Kilroy quit UKIP in 2004 that the party would collapse , is made a Dame.

Also getting awards are:

Johnny Briggs, actor (71) who retired this year from Coronation Street (the ITV fictional programme) after playing the character Mike Baldwin (a factory owner) for over 30 years. MBE. 8)

Penelope Keith, actress (66). CBE.

Rod Stewart, singer (61). CBE.

Zara Phillips (25), Granddaughter of The Queen (daughter of The Princess Royal). First senior Royal to appear in a New Year's Honours List. CBE.

Julia Plaine from Kirklees in 'west' Yorkshire, is to receive an MBE for her work "supporting sex workers" (reported BBC 1 Television Ceefax, page 107 at 0043 hours on 30.12.2006).

Officials at the Palace said that 46% of those on the New Year's Honours List had been nominated or supported by members of the public. Among those receiving awards are an 80 year-old shoe shiner and a former milkman.
