If we get too far (we may be approaching that point now), the only solutions available will be

a) Just accept your lot, not grumble and be treated like the cattle that you are on an ever worsening basis.

b) Flee and hope to find a country that isn't going down the same route, or discovers it's balls in time.

c) Become an outlaw, just like the Iraqi insurgents and do everything you can to get the country back against all the odds.

So it will become an illegal group of freedom fighters.
How would the EU swallow up the home nations exactly? Surely you are aware that if the UK breaks up, we would automatically be out of the EU?

The UK joined the EU, not the separate nations. Each nation, by way of their own Parliament and elected government, would then have to re-apply to join the EU and a rerefendum would have to be held for their citizens?

Surely you know this? Surely UKIP are not that thick? Please tell me that UKIP are actually aware of it?

This is the same old assertion that has been refuted in other threads. It does not become any more true by being repeated over and over again.

More false assertions, no actual argument again. They might buy this over at the Cross of St George forum but it doesn't wash here.

So use it as an excuse to email your MP about the EU and get it back on the agenda, then. It will be interesting to see if the replies correspond with each other, or if they too have differing opinons on this -

http://www.writetothem.com/

Dear (name of MP),

In light of all the recent news stories about almost half of the English
polled by the Telegraph wanting independence for England and 68%
wanting an English Parliament, I have a query regarding membership of
the EU.

If one or more of the Home Nations became independent from the UK,
would the UK still exist?

If the UK no longer existed, would England still be a member of the EU
or would England then need to re-apply as a separate nation?

If the UK still existed, would the original terms of entry to the EU
still apply or would they have to be renegotiated by the remaining UK
nations?

Would the (name of Party) argue for a referendum for the people of
England if such scenarios arose or would the (name of Party)
simply re-apply on our behalf without a referendum?

Yours sincerely,

It's got to be "other" choice. If the UK was smashed to pieces and put into a new Super European Federal State the only answer for reunification would be to set up a seperatist movement. Although how well this would do with the might of a federal Europe breathing down our necks goodness knows.

However rather than dwelling on what to do if the worst case scenario happened why not dwell on how to keep it from happening for the mean time?!

The Scottish people deciding to leave the UK would at least remove the fudge that is the current situation - the Scottish people would know that they were relying on their own economy and tax income.

This 'independence' would be a major domestic political shock, and in the wake of that would be likely to make more people recognise that we are not somehow doomed to permanent membership of the EU.

The shock of Scotland leaving the union would be enormous .The Scots would find out too late that they will be bankrupted by such a move and the English would realise that they are on their own in this big bad world .
If that doesn`t wake us all up nothing much will .

The English are by far the more Eurosceptic of all the Brits so it would give us a chance to get a grip on nationalist politics and get us out of the EU-maybe the Scots would follow us out once they have realised that the dream of self determination( in or out of the EU) ain`t so good.

If it`s going to happen let`s look on the bright side .

.
What is the betting on Labour (English) offering to sponsor the Scots in the first 10 years of their independence to help them find their feet!
