Default Failure to turn up to official hustings

Is it disrespectful for Nigel Farage and Campbell Bannerman to fail to turn up to the official leadership hustings in the North East?

Not disrespectful, but unwise of them. There's votes in them thar hills. Farage and DCB missed an opportunity to present their case. Richardski should be cheering.

As one of the Scottish contingent who travelled to Scotch Corner expecting to see and hear ALL the candidates, I was disappointed that the two "big guns" failed to appear but not surprised.
I've heard Nigel gets a nose bleed if he travels North of London. I'm sure DCB had calculated that there would be more people at the garden party likely to vote than at the husting so why bother!!

We made the effort to get down, true leaders would have been there.

However it did give us the opportunity to quizz both the candidates in greater depth than would be possible with all four being there.
David must have got rid of the "stage fright" in Merseyside mentioned by an earlier poster as both came across very well.
As the one with the more leadership experience of the two candidates Richard will get my vote and I believe also of the others who cared enough to attend.

Not disrespectful.

BUT their absence should have been made known before hand so that people did not travel a long way to be disappointed.

AND it was unwise of them since this is their opportunity to sell themselves.

if DCBs engagement was long standing could they not have chosen another date?

It would be disrespectful if no apologies were sent, they were sent though.

I can understand your frustration and anger, Peter. DCB has asked anyone on this forum who wants to ask him any questions to send an email via his site and he will give a straightforward answer. Why don't you tell him about it and ask why he wasn't there / why garden party b4 hustings?

He does address on his website, the issue of whether UKIP should just be a Party for England. He firmly states his commitment to the UK, not just England. In fact, he is part English, part Scottish, part Welsh and part Irish!

The hustings are a chance for members to weigh up the potential leaders in person, and see how they deal with questions other people have thought of.

You can't get that from an e-mail dialogue.

Do you want 4 years with someone who can't be bothered to keep appointments with the membership?

It's not even as if they were being rushed to hospital by ambulance.

Fact: did not attend one hustings meeting due to a long-standing commitment, not

John seems to exaggerate things a lot.

Peter could ask to speak to him on the phone too.

Long standing commitment, being a garden party that I know would not have been upset, given the importance of hustings.

Instead of guessing and implying bad motives, you could ask him, he has invited you to on the thread I started with his answers to the conspiracy theory and tank stunt.

I know he was there, I don't need to guess anything.

He chose a garden party in the South East, over leadership hustings in the north. There is nothing more to it.

It's irrelevant anyway. DCB has zero chance of winning, UNLESS, Farage pulled out and told all his people to vote for him.

No pull out and the results will be as follows.

1. Farage
2. Richardski
3. DCB
4. David Noakes

With Farage pull out then it will be tight, but he might just scrape home.
