Default Boris Johnson and the dream of Rome

Did anyone watch the programme on BBC 2 last night.

Boris certainly didn't seem very enamoured with the EU, and thought that the whole project would not get very far, unlike the Holy Roman Empire of old.

Just finished reading his book. He only really (despite his subtext) gets INTO phpbb_EU bashing in the last chapter.

I get the impression that as a Tory MP he is too embarrassed to come straight out with "The EU is a load of dingoes kidneys", but he can't really find anything nice to say about it either.

His major conclusion appears to be that the EU will implode within a few years unless it finds a single man who can take charge and become a Roman demigod in all but name.

No, he didn't name Manglebum.

Or Kinnochio.

Or Bliar.

I also watched it. Unfortunately Boris lacks the courage to say we should leave now. Like most Tories he puts party and his job before the best interests of the country.

I could not agree with you more.

I think his programme is excellent, but it is not a career move for any Tory to say "let's get out of the EU" yet I firmly believe, having been the Deputy Chairman for South Wales Tories in the past, that is what they want at grass roots level.

If we were seen as a far more professional organisation, I am sure we would attract a large number of the discontented Tories out there who are appalled at Cameron's Policy announcements. I am also mindful that we should not just hanker after these people but also look at malcontents in other political parties, as we are a broad church and it is this that makes us so rich and interesting.

I must confess, if I had the resources, I would commission a programme entitled "What does it mean to be British?" Interesting hey from someone called Suchorzewski.

Regards and in full support.
