It's a very long time since I studied the details, RW&B, and I just wrote "in situ" this morning, but since you ask, I went to my old History of the Art of the Ancient World sources and found the sculptures of the dying Galatians for you. They are Roman copies of bronze dedications of Attalos I at Pergamon. Vercingetorix and Herman fought the Romans first hand, these former fought the Greeks. Here is an extract from the text regarding the attitude of respect the conquerors had for the bravery and fighting spirit of these Galatians:

In the second half of the third century the school of sculpture centered on Pergamon came to the fore with a series of statues, perhaps grouped in some way with each other, commemorating victories over the Galatians, who had been a formidable threat to the kingdom of Pergamon under Attalos I. We have only copies in marble: the originals were of bronze. These are notable works of art, reflecting in their integrity the reality of the struggle and the respect of the victors for the vanquished: the bravery, as well as the physical appearance of their opponents, is studied and depicted with interest and admiration.

Thanks for that Silver Falcon , De Bello Gallico, it apears i am a Milky White GAUL :!: , I Might have to go and get one of those DNA tests you were on about in an Earlier posting, see what they make of ME!
