Matt!

Why don't you post the rest of the story? What happened next?

It was clear that from what happened next he was testing her.

Quote:
21Leaving that place, Jesus withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon. 22A Canaanite woman from that vicinity came to him, crying out, "Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is suffering terribly from demon-possession."

23Jesus did not answer a word. So his disciples came to him and urged him, "Send her away, for she keeps crying out after us."

24He answered, "I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel."

25The woman came and knelt before him. "Lord, help me!" she said.

26He replied, "It is not right to take the children's bread and toss it to their dogs."

27"Yes, Lord," she said, "but even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters' table."

28Then Jesus answered, "Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted." And her daughter was healed from that very hour.

Exactly! - If Matt is intelligent? and I throw that open to the collective judgement of the forum. Then he could read the next couple of verses himself and see the answer. Instead he trys to provoke people. and imply Christ is a "racist" I refer you to my answer to Matt and say if there is a genuine question answer it. a if someone is kite flying with a view discredit and demean then they need contempt not justification and compassion.

The word 'dog' can be very offensive when applied to people. The Jews at that time did refer to Gentiles as dogs sometimes. Jesus used it in the context of domestic pets, so less offensive.

Was Jesus racist as in 'hater of other races' ? No, IMO.

Would Jesus have been judged as racist for what he said by the pc brigade today? Yes, IMO. The pc brigade falsely judge people a lot, and that is against the teaching of Jesus.

Actually, the little clippet was posted by someone else on another forum, JC posted the follwing bit, which cleared it up nicely.

Thankfully he posted the following bit that answered the question, rather than bitching and moaning like some others.

Matt, your record handling christian things is more often than not full of sniping and sprikled with tiresome things such as "bitching and moaning"
Had you, as you later did, explained the situation. you would have recieved a different reply. I still think my initial reply fits your position perfectly. Treat christians and related subjects with respect and we will answer your questions honestly and fairly, however elementary and tedious they may be.

'Blatant racism' and 'sin' are not always the same thing, Oliver. A pc person would still see it as 'blatant racism' even in context.

Godless secularists don't realise the offence they give when they snipe at and rubbish Christ. Then they expect christians to behave in the sterile plastic smile and say nothing mode in response. They dont seem ever to be able to ask a straight question, it always has to be wrapped in cynicism or bile. I suspect that one day a perfect pc ukip will emerge entirely free of christians, unless they have us on board as court jesters for their amusement only. The question is will any play that role?

I agree but see my latest post on the Race and Religion thread where I have explained about the causes of offence. Offence isn't just caused by someone else. We have a part to play too.

'You are an idiot Christina!' seems offensive. What if it is a jokey comment in a pub from a friend, in response to something I have said which was deliberately stated as serious, but feigned, for a laugh?

What if it is stated by someone I think of as being an idiot?

It would only carry weight from someone I respect.

I do respect Matt, but I know what he's like from other comments, so I think to myself 'that's just Matt.'
