Default Locked Topics

How come topics with Robert Edwards in are continuously locked I now have now right of reply to his pathetic excuse for being a member of the NF. I have read the postings and I can’t think of one that is offensive, could you please point out why the subject was locked

They get locked if they turn personal or if they get too far off topic and silly.

Anthony which category did this one fall INTO phpbb_it was not getting personnel it was good debate. Perhaps by your standards it wasn’t but we live in a democracy at least that’s what I thought.

When a topic collapses down to criticisms of punctuation, it is going nowhere. We have to make a call on these matters to ensure that the threads are at least readable by other forum users. Endless tit-for-tat fights mean that other users end up wasting their time reading them.... which in turn reduces the overall value of the forum.

To be fair though Anthony, that thread did have some good content until people started getting childish. Could't we have done a bit of snipping first and then locked it if it persisted?

Personally on this one I'm with Anthony. For some reason RE tends to bring out the worst in people, the topic goes personal and loses the plot. I'm guilty too.

WRONG! They get locked because you can not cope with a reasoned opposing view. There is already an admission that the person responsible for this intolerant behaviour does so after a couple of pints.
Some people should be reminded that this forum is in the public domain for all the world to see.
It does not give out good "democratic" credentials.
I am always polite and "on topic".

Robert - glad you were factually correct and said "opposing view". That, perhaps, is the root of the problem, in that you always put your opposing view but no-one is quite sure of your opposing view POINT.

Where, exactly, do you stand?
Who, exactly, do you support? (besides yourself, obviously)

I am not a member of any political party, if that is what you mean. I have explained my views on various threads here on this forum and elsewhere. I have even explained them in private e-mails from this thread.
Everyone needs to see the other side of the coin now and then for the purposes of comparison and so that the right or wrong of a point of view can be confirmed.
What is wrong with the challenge of debate? It is intellectually stimulating as well as very democratic.

Because it becomes debate for the point of debate - essentially an argument where one party deliberately chooses to take an opposing view rapidly becomes a row which rapidly becomes locked!

No, it wasn't, as you know.

A man of your apparent intellect needs to exercise his skill through debating from a stated position. I refer you to the published work on this point:-

Quote:
M: Oh look, this isn't an argument.
A: Yes it is.
M: No it isn't. It's just contradiction.
A: No it isn't.
M: It is!
A: It is not.
M: Look, you just contradicted me.
A: I did not.
M: Oh you did!!
A: No, no, no.
M: You did just then.
A: Nonsense!
M: Oh, this is futile!
A: No it isn't.
M: I came here for a good argument.
A: No you didn't; no, you came here for an argument.
M: An argument isn't just contradiction.
A: It can be.
M: No it can't. An argument is a connected series of statements intended to establish a proposition.
A: No it isn't.
M: Yes it is! It's not just contradiction.
A: Look, if I argue with you, I must take up a contrary position.
M: Yes, but that's not just saying 'No it isn't.'
A: Yes it is!
M: No it isn't!
