I'll agree to abolishing tobacco altogether if alcohol is also abolished.

This is going to be very interesting to watch, I’ve always said that if the market demanded non-smoking pubs then surly the breweries would supply them. This happens in all other sectors of the markets. At last it has happened now whether it’s what the market demands or just some anti smoker at the top of JDs I don’t known but the results will be interesting to see. There was a pub by me that went smoke free but after loosing £15000 in three months they converted back. I do know of other smoke free pubs but they are mainly eating-houses. Personally I think government should force all pubs to have air movement systems and the should be inspected on a regular basis this way no one would be contaminated by other peoples smoke.

I have no problem with a business making this decision on it's own. It was coming anyway, without the need for legislation.

All power to Weatherspoons if they are happy they will not lose business. Perhaps the people who want to smoke will go elsewhere, while those that don't will now go to Weatherspoons. See all sectors of society kept happy, without the need for draconian blanket bans!

Agreed with mkpdavies.

Anyone who wants a national imposed cigarette ban would do well to ask themselves how well the drug war is going. And accustom themselves to the phrases "tobacco related crime", "smoke-easies", "baccy-head youth culture", etc etc.

So just because it's difficult to enforce a law means that we shouldn't make it? Only 5% of burglaries are solved; should we legalise burglary because we can't enforce the law? And think of all the other crimes that burglary leads to; possession, drugs, handling, etc. We could end all that if we legalised burglary.

Just because a law is difficult to enforce does not mean that it shouldn't exist.
