Default Billy Bragg re-writing "I vow to thee my country"

I note that left wing 'protest' singer Billy Bragg and Labour MP Martin Linton have re-written the lyrics of "I vow to thee my country". Instead of the patriotic words that are traditionally sung to "Jupiter" from Holst's Planets, Bragg and Linton have introduced lyrics such as "We vow to build a country......Where we will share our wealth."

Actions speak louder than words, so is Billy Bragg going to be the first left winger to "share his wealth"? I don't think so.

Billy Bragg is just another champagne socialist who embraces the finer things in life and does nothing (apart from shooting his mouth off) to help less fortunate people.

Does anyone agree with me?

Ahhh - another bit of heritage/history/tradition (delete as appicable) gets hammered by new labour.

And yes, Billy Brag (great and fitting name for a labour crony) is a 'champagne socialist', and first class ****** to boot.

I whole heartedly concur. It's very easy to sing the virtues of sharing the wealth, while keeping a very tight hold on your own!

The reason Socialism, Communism or any other "ism" tends to fail, is down to good old human nature. There will always be people who will bend the rules and others that crave power. The rest of us want the best for ourselves and our families.

There are very few socialists that are not of the Champagne variety! Especially if they have had a taste of power!

I liked the record of Woody Guthrie songs he did with Wilco. "Ingrid Bergman" is easy and fun to play on the guitar. You have to hand it to him, he's at least been consistent in his Marxist babblings for quite a while. It's almost funny. I read an interview of Tom Morello (the Rage Against the Machine guy) in a guitar magazine and he was saying things like "And I was talking to Billy Bragg, trying to figure out how we can have no private ownership and still be able to have Fender guitars." I think I can understand how you all would be tired of it though. First the Clash, then Billy Bragg, then whoever came after them. Music is about forgetting your problems and feeling good, not receiving a sermon in how selfish you are. I cannot stand self-righteous celebrities. Madonna went on a rant one time about selfish Americans which might very well be true, but all I can say is that I'm not the one living in a Scottish castle. Oh and my all-time favorite is Jane Fonda, who named her kid after some officer in the VietCong but still found it fit to demand 6 figure salaries for her movies

Down with Billy Bragg, up with Billy Childish!!

Ah yes - the Bragg man...who at the last general election set up some sort of web site where voters could 'swap' votes...I'll vote for LibDem if you vote Labour...like all so-called 'voices of the opressed' the last thing they want to get in the way of democracy...is democracy.

That's because, unlike you, she buys a newpaper - albeit 'cos she is bribed to do so by the offer of an allegedly free CD.

If Billy Bragg keeps bastardising rousing tunes like 'i vow to thee my country', he will soon become Billy No-Mates.
What an absolute abortion he made of it !!!!!!!!!!!!

He should stick to singing not playing politics, doing so tends to polarise the fan base, not brilliant business sense.

I liked his records of the 80s, they were rather good in my opinion.

people of course are entitled to their political opinions but when they have like Billy Bragg an unfair advantage to air their views which many people don't agree with they should think twice.
