How will Cornish devolution work? Can Cornwall afford it?

It is not racist to be concerned about immigration.

As an Ulster Nationalist, I am often asked how could we afford it. And it is a problem. No doubt about it. That said, it shouldn't be a game stopper, and if anything, it makes me look at my country with different eyes.
Instinctively I wanted to support Cornish devolution, but when I looked into it, I just can't see how it is viable.. not to mention that 95% of the area is proudly English! I think the devolved regions was the boat the Cornish should have jumped on.. but I, again, saw this as a non started, and if anything, something that would divide the English.. something that should never be endorsed.

The answer is county assemblies giving greater autonomy and recognition and regional provincial government.

In 1968, touring in Cornwall, I experienced the worst Cornish pasties that I had ever attempted to eat. I didn't know it was possible to get that much gristle into a small pastry case, and the minute portions served up as cream teas weren't much to write home about. Then there were the lachrymose loud mouths in Cornish shops and cafes, those who whined and shouted at each other ignoring the bad atmosphere this created for customers.

I've never been back since, thank God.

I'm not Cornish, although I lived in North Cornwall a few years back. However as a believer that small is beautiful I think under the right type of government Cornwall is highly able to function viably. Iceland ( pop 250,000 and no natural resources) is 5th in the world league of quality of life. Other small nations with no natural resource are Hong Kong, Singapore, Switzerland, Lichtenstein, Luxembourg, Andorra, San Marino and Monaco. Anyone notice anything about that list?

So Kernow is in my opinion very viable, especially if they adopt similar government and policies as those other small states.

You may also wish to consider The Isle of Man, Jersey, Guernsey, Malta, Barbados( pop 80,000) Antigua ( pop 70K)

You might wish to consider that Cornwall would have to pay its share of the British state debt and the interest payments on it. It would also have to pay for any services it used from either the British state or a new English state.

Just a personal response but I respect these Cornish feelings of having their own identity.

Where I live in Devon, the cosg is I am glad to report to be seen everywhere but cross over the border to Cornwall, and their own Cornish flag is the most common.

So not all English patriots wish to put obstacles in the way to hinder Cornish separatism.
