    Default Ealing Films.

I realise this thread will probably create little interest for the majority but I'm sure a few of you must like the Ealing classics...he said hopefully. Actors such as Alec Guinness, Stanley Holloway and Cecil Parker are among some of my all time favorites. People sometimes ask which is my favorite Ealing film but It's impossible to have just one favorite. I think Kind Hearts and Coronets is probably one of the best Ealing films but I'm always torn between The Titfield Thunderbolt and The Lavender Hill Mob, I absolutely love these films. It must be said I'm not just a fan of Ealing films, I like many old films from the 1930's to the 1960's but my collection hasn't got much after that. Unlike Mrs Rackham who has a DVD case full of modern Hollywood "movies" which are on occasion wachable but I find the vast majority are very forgettable. For me Stanley Holloway beats Bruce Willis every time.

    LOL not quite.

You obviously suspect I'm old because I like old films?

I have that one in a box set of nine I received as a Christmas present a couple of years ago. Never was one of my fave Ealing films if I'm honest, but an enjoyable film none the less.

A superb film and as I mentioned in my opening post probably one of the best films to come out of Ealing, certainly the high point in Dennis Price's acting career.

Ealing Studios, now there was an outfit that knew how to make a good comedy. I can't think of a single film they made that I didn't enjoy. I was watching "The Man in the White Suit" last night - classic (Socialist union rabble-rousers team up with corrupt big business corporatists to suppress individual initiative). I''ve also re-watched "Passport to Pimlico" recently (Big Government uses force to try to clamp down on the legitimate aspirations of a minority who just want to be free to live their own lives without outside interference.) And of course "The Titfield Thunderbolt" (Thrusting capitalist entrepreneurs provide a much-needed local public transport service to fill the gap left by the useless nationalised railway company.)

Good libertarian stuff that all the family can enjoy.

Ah Citizen I see we have something in common, but not much lol. "The Man in the White Suit", most definately an Ealing classic. I haven't watched it for some time, I may put that right this evening.

As it happens last night I watched "London Belongs To Me" not an Ealing film (Pinewood actually) but an old English classic all the same. The opening titles are incredibly nostalgic, a journey down the 1940's River Thames, and not a minarete in sight. With a cast that includes Dicky Attenborough, Alastair Sim, and the gorgeous Susan Shaw this was always going to be a film to be found at Rackham Towers. If you're into this genre of film I strongly recomend this one.

Not seen "London Belongs to Me", but if a film has Alastair Sim in it, that's normall enough of a recommendation for me.
