Nellist use to be Labour MP for somewhere in Coventry didn't he? I think he could do well, being a long time serving Socialist Party Councillor, I don't fancy him to unseat Jobsworth though!
I hope Mr Nellist does not return to the HOC we could do without his brand of socialism.

He got just over 5% of the vote running under the "Socialist Alternative" banner in '05. The more co-ordinated effort from the Trade Union and Socialist Coalition this time around may see him do better, as you say these groups are good at running grassroots campaigns and would be able to attract the disillusioned socialist vote towards them. But like I say, I don't expect him to beat Josbworth.
Dave Nellist was the Labour MP for the now abolished seat of Coventry South East. After being expelled from the Labour party he came close to holding the seat as an independent in 1992. He is now a Councillor for the St Michaels ward.
I disagree with this. While I don't like Nellist's political opinions I do have a grudging respect for him. Unlike so many others on the left he has always been true to his principles and as an MP only took a "working man's wage".
I'd agree with that Richard, the "MP on a workers wage" is something Nellist championed back in the 80's. His odds at the betting agents are looking high.
If the likes of Nellist had been in charge in the 1980s the country would have lost the Falklands, given into the miners, not transformed into a market economy and Union power would have been enhanced not curbed as it needed to be.
So with respect it was a good day for democracy when the electorate got rid of him. I do agree he is a man of principle but the policys he espouses are stuck in the past.
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
