We are a broad church network organisation and have varying levels of support for English devolution within our ranks, some people seek English Independence, and others wish to go further.

The general principle is we stand united on our belief that England should be free & fight for English Independence from Westminster and the EU.

Activists within the CEI are now taking a well earned rest over the Yuletide period, spending quality time with family and friends.

We wish everyone well & hope the New Year brings us closer to English Independence and English Solidarity.

    Onwards and upwards! England Arise!

Now is not the time to be taking a rest in my opinion, after all, thats what the anti England parties do and you dont want to become one of their followers do you? Get cracking right up to the holidays and give the party goers something to discuss among themselves.

In my opinion, there is room for an independence/separation campaign for England as a counterpart to the Campaign for an English Parliament. It might more appropriately be called the Campaign for England's Sovereignty [CES] which would not only avoid debate about whether it is really about independence or separation, but appeal to monarchists and be consistent with leaving the EU, continued membership of which will continue to impair England's sovereignty. However, deciding a suitable name is for separate discussion.

I would also suggest that it is a task to which RTL could lend his weight and undoubted talents. The aim should be to alter public opinion in England such that increasing and significant numbers of voters come to support the Campaign's objective.

When [not if] the Campaign succeeds in its efforts, the results may well bring about a shift of the EDPs' policy here. Perhaps an even more exciting alternative would be the emergence of wealthy and influential individuals who could combine to establish an effective political party for advancing the Campaign politically.

Now that the FEP has folded, there are those who continue to believe in the desirability of a separate, sovereign England and, rather than drift away into frustrated political activity because they are not attracted to current alternatives, they may well be attracted to support and to promote this Campaign until it becomes feasible to launch a new political party which more relevantly reflects their views.

Just a few, hopefully encouraging, thoughts.

Cassie - why doesn't the EDP just call for independence instead? You know, protect Englands Sovereignty instead of trying to fix a balkanized union.

Because the objective evidence [opinion polls] indicate greater support for a separate English Parliament and less actual opposition. This is to say that, not only is support for separation some 15% or more less, but actual opposition to it is greater.

My own opinion is that an English Parliament and all it entails will probably bring about separation anyway. One has only to remember how intolerant Scots were about the 'Community Charge' [aka Poll Tax] and only too ready to blame the English in the shape of Mrs Thatcher even though it was applied equally in England [and Wales]. Such a reaction in the circumstances of an English Parliament will serve to protect England's interests [and wealth] infinitely better than separation in circumstances in which the likes of Brown presided.

The EDP's policy seems both reasonable and wise to me. However, circumstances change and the EDP's policy could also change given the appropriate conditions.

Yes but the Poll Tax was applied to Scotland a year early (April '89) to test the water, the Scots objected to being the guinea pigs.

As the above said, Scotland were used as guinea pigs.

I hope that Scottish and English nationalists can join together, in a peaceful manner to achieve both our goals. I believe that if one of us were to achieve the goal of separation, then it would only be a matter of time until the other did the same.

If English voters were to support or campaign a referendum on independence in Scotland, we could see real change. I say this because so far, no powerful English political party shares the same ambition as the SNP.

Scots were only used as guinea pigs in as far as the Community Charge was rolled out in Scotland first.

Scottish nationalists would help their cause were they to campaign for a referendum on Scotland separating from the UK to be held also in England and throughout the whole of the UK. Not only would this demonstrate concern for constitutional niceties, but also for democracy.

One would expect the determining and over-riding ballot to be the one conducted in Scotland.

I believe that a clear majority of voters in England (and Wales) would support Scotland's exit on the basis of "if that is what they wish". Moreover, it would weaken resistance to voters in England being able to participate in referenda.

Without doubt, a combination of English and Scottish nationalists calling for a referendum on Scotland's status would give the squitters to Unionist politicians! The prospect of such bi- (or tri-) nationalist democratic manifestations would be a powerful thing!!
