I'm inclined to agree with you, although my old Religious sparring partner 'rjt' wouldn't! I can't believe there is a loving God simply because of the awful things that happen to babies and young children World wide! Those of the Faith say God gave Man freedom of choice, what to abuse young children and babies??? Sorry not the type of God I'd want to pray to, and certainly not worship!

No wonder their moral compass is so messed up.

It's interesting that nearly all the socialists and multi-cultists and egalitarians I've met have tended to be atheist.

Anyway, I believe in God the Father, maker of Heaven and Earth. ktl.

    Really!
Well I must be the exception then.

Either that or you have met 3 folk and decided that was enough on which to base your statistical analysis.

    Ephesians 6:12

12For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

So why do you support a political party that wouldn't allow Jesus to live in this country if he was alive today?

Doesn't sound very Christian to me.

Religion is a strange thing. Where I am, for example, the worse things get, the more blood flows in vicious killings and endless violent attacks and hardship, the more the believers assert that their God exists and is "coming". The worse things get the harder the Jehovah's Witnesses push their door to door propaganda about a time when this amazing deity will finally get off its lazy behind and return to put things right. The fact that they have been preaching this twaddle for centuries doesn't worry the believers. They seem to lose all sense of rationality as they pump out this mantra of the return when no such thing is either likely or possible. But, they do have a creed that views bad times as a sign that the Devil is abroad and so God's vengeance must be near. But violent times have come and gone and no God, no Jesus ... zip ... just life perpetuating itself any way it can find a way to do so. If God has a perfect plan for every individual, how is this possible with so many individuals being laid waste by other individuals and deity powerless to stop this or change it? No believer will ever stop to think about this. They seem driven by a suspension of disbelief. I have begun to wonder if fervour, both political and religious, isn't just a desperate kind of denial manifested as an equally desperate kind of belief.

Some people experience terrible things and realise that there cannot be this all loving omnipresent deity or he'd never let these happen, especially, as someone pointed out, let them happen to children. Some people who escape them think they were "blessed". They see this as a "sign" that God heard them and "saved" them. So what about the others who didn't survive? Didn't God like them as much? Did he save someone else's child but decide yours wasn't worth it? What do believers do when this happens? One of two things. They blame some "evil" in their lives that they think is the cause for God having turned away. Or they say that God loved the child so much he wanted it with him instead so he let a vicious paedophile rip it out of their lives and rape it and kill it and leave it in a dustbin. Religion is mindless and cruel in these very real matters. If that isn't bad enough God doesn't want you to be angry with the killer, but instead "turn the other cheek" and "forgive".

Staggeringly stupid. Yet millions have done this very thing ever since the pacifist system came to take the place of good old fashioned human vengeance. Every single secular bleeding heart liberal and social engineer today has political credentials that match almost exactly this religious creed of a supplicating cult with a wrathful uberdeity who demands total obedience or the acolyte will spend eternity in torment.

Is it possible for people who understand the age of the earth and how the solar system and by extension other aspects of the universe were formed, have superstition living happily on the shelf next to the microscope and the petri dish? Apparently humans can and this indicates to me, personally, that humans have a dual capability in some method of combining the fantastic with the commonplace and not questioning the validity of this. It's as though science and common sense are capable of opening one door but that religion and threats are capable of closing it. Humanity seems to exist suspended between the dread of finding out the truth by empirical observation and being wiped out by a God who hates everything that doesn't relate directly to himself. He's like a tyrannical parent.

I have often wondered what these people who believe all this guff will do if some day someone discovers a network of dimensions or parallel universes, or that the soul might actually be made of some substance. That life may be a biological duality of some sort and existence anywhere just a manifestation of a more vast and incomprehensible set of realities. Orthodox religion tends to set its standards by the earth and a "heaven" and a "hell". It sets moral rules based on its own ideas and invents some celestial family that somehow made and therefore owns everything and everyone.

But what if this is utter speculation based on a human desire for control and the real deal is weirder than a dream? The universe certainly turned out to quite different from the way it is portrayed in religions. And aspects of life on earth and of the earth itself are nowhere near the way they are described in bibles. Organised religion prevents the individual from finding out the truth as there are injunctions never to question Monsieur Godot. He who questions has no faith, etc. That is usually the least of anyone's problems though as he who questions has other more perilous fates awaiting him.

There are people in our world who adhere to a certain religious dogma and believe they will inherit a paradise filled with virgins for their enjoyment if they strap a backpack of explosives to themselves and use themselves to blow up hundreds and sometimes thousands of other people. If you question this madness you will be labelled an infidel and a curse be put on you and you could wind up being executed by indoctrinated acolytes. What is worse by far is that if you complain about this awful belief system your own people, themselves the victims of a different cult that worships humans as one race and mangles anyone who questions this, will attack you for questioning the religious dogma of a cult they do not themselves believe in.

    Now how mad is that?

How can any left wing extremists insist they have left religion behind and that it's only right wing people who use this to create social control situations? How many people think they have the answer when there is no answer because there is no question? And how many are convinced that politics is the answer to religion when the one is merely the god bothering alter ego of the other?

I would be more inclined to believe in a "god" as long as it wasn't written that I was going to be burned, spiked, hanged drawn and quartered, whipped or live for eternity in a pit of flames if I didn't.

I like the concept of an all-loving "god" who embraces the individual in both mind and body because he/she/it isnt scared to allow that individual to grow. Unfortunately there is no such thing, as that would miss the whole point of religion and the use of religion to control as many of the individuals it can.
