Default Buying a house in Cornwall

We’re thinking of moving down to Cornwall.

As a result of the death of an aunt we have around 400,000 to spend and are looking for advice on which parts would be best for a place suitable for holiday lets for about three to five years with the intent for us to relocate on a permanent basis after that time.

Somewhere near the sea, and ideally very near, is our preference.

In the past we’ve been through places like Redruth and Cambourne and hate them so they’re out not only by distance from the coast but also by what they’re like as places, though Hayle or Marazion both look quite pleasant.

    Any suggestions?

Wouldnt you prefer some where more mixed like Hackney or Tower Hamlets?
Or is that just for other people?

Our choice of Cornwall is simply to take advantage of a better climate. The "whiteness" or otherwise of Cornwall will sooner rather than later be a thing of the past and I will do my utmost to accelerate the changes in every way that I can..

One way will be to target holiday advertising for the place we will soon buy in areas less than predominantly white which we had every intention of doing anyway.

Apart from anything else we stand more chance of getting a better class of clients that way.

Of the people who choose the UK as a place for holidays, in my experience catagorically YES.

What about peoples 'experiance' of living with non whites then? If they said they didn't want to live near them because of experiance you'd accuse them of racism.

Buying a house in Cronwall? I do love these spelling mistakes. It's the stuff of English humour! I once took a picture of someone who ended up as an MP. The picture was in Penistone and he was standing in front of the sign which had the town's name emblazoned on it. When I saw the photo he was standing in front of the "T" with the rest of the name separated by his head!

    LOL!

    Well spotted, I missed that!

But it is a serious question, and I would like advice as although it's a bit late for this year Summer visitors there's the all-year trade to be had, and we would like to be able to move in on a permanent basis within four years.

I'll give you a serious answer now! Why not concentrate on the north coast near to Newquay. That part is keenly visited by surfers and family holiday makers. Newquay Airport is fast growing. It can be accessed from quite a few places, such as Birmingham.

If its holiday lets, don't spend the full £400,000. Why not buy two properties? Here are some examples.

2 bedroom bungalow in Quintrell Downs, NEWQUAY £148,950 2 bedroom bungalow in Quintrell Downs, NEWQUAY
2 bedroom house in St Newlyn East, NEWQUAY £152,500 2 bedroom house in St Newlyn East, NEWQUAY

Two properties costing you about £300,000. You have a further £100,000 to invest later. Give tenants a reason to rent your properties. If you want to relocate later, you could sell both for a larger property. This site will give you an idea of what to expect and aim for.
