Default Immigration - Miliband admits Labour 'got it wrong'

Labour leader Ed Miliband has promised to deter firms from exclusively employing workers from overseas, as he admits his party "got it wrong" on immigration when in government.
He will say Gordon Brown and Tony Blair should not have allowed uncontrolled immigration from new EU states in 2004.
He will also pledge to ban recruitment agencies which use only foreign workers at the expense of "local talent".
But immigration campaigners said Labour had acted with "contempt" in power.

.............. Many in the party blamed the effects on immigration, including the lowering of wages and pressures on social services, for the scale of Labour's defeat in the 2010 general election.
Acknowledging that this was a factor, Mr Miliband will promise measures to help British workers, including:

    • Forcing medium and large employers to declare if more than a quarter of their workforce is foreign

    • Banning employment agencies from taking on only overseas workers

    • Setting up an early-warning system, run by the Migration Advisory Council, to highlight areas where the workforce is "dominated by low-wage labour from other countries"

    • Identifying where British jobseekers need better training

    • Tougher legislation on the minimum wage, with a doubling of the fine from £5,000 to £10,000 for those who break the law.

If Miliband wants to be sure of winning the next election he needs to do much more to reverse Labour's disastrous immigration policy.

A complete ban on all immigration except vital workers like scientists and doctors, a mass round up and removal of illegals, foreign criminals, asylum seekers and overstayers, immediate deportation for all foreigners, including those from the EU, who break our laws, immediate deportation of all Muslim extremists and terrorist sympathisers however long they've been here.

Then we may begin to get our country back.

Nor me. It's still UKIP or another "Far Right " party which will get my vote next time. I've heard enough lies from all the others.

About a year ago, I went to sign on at my local Jobcentre. Asking for details of a job in a manufacturing company in Redditch that stated "Must be native / fluent in Polish", I asked why and if it was legal. They said it was(!), but the MD of the company only recruited Polish workers, because he said "....they work hard and turn up on time".

This, to me, is 'code speak' for "cheaper".

I bet it would be illegal to advertise for staff that were fluent in English though.

Probably. There was a half decent discussion on Jeremy Vine';s Radio2 show today, esp. by a Polish lady calling in.

I though they were putting an end to this? : http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...t-streets.html

Agreed. Ed Milliband is doing what Cameron was doing before the last election. Do you remember DC promising that annual net immigration would be in the tens of thousands not the hundreds of thousands??

And as for Ed M, ..."Labour knew immigration was out of control seven years ago, says former minister"
    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/ukne...-minister.html

And now he seriously expects the electorate to take him seriously on curbing immigration?

At least he has admitted that Labour got it wrong. That's a step in the (right) direction. The unlimited migration we saw under Labour has placed unacceptable pressure on public services. We need to tackle immigration, and reduce the level of net migration to sustainable levels, whilst still permitting entry to skilled workers for specific roles if these roles cannot be filled by UK nationals.

Again with the "NET" migration, this is just code for replacement.

Yes. And even if 200,000 Brits leave and 250,000 foreigners come in it still has a huge impact on the make up of our society.
