I pay for everything in cash except the groceries I have delivered and books from Amazon. So far I haven't had any problems buying large items in shops but when it does finally happen I will shop elsewhere. One problem though is car dealers, they won't accept cash, so will only buy cars from private sellers.

My savings are not kept in banks either, it's happy where it is, under the mattress.

But before people do that, they have to be aware of what's going on and I'm afraid, most do not.
I agree, most are not aware of much beyond football and the X Factor.

Satnavs make people stupid, nothing wrong with an A-Z it keeps the brain active. Mobile phones - people should have one for legit purposes left at home and one for family and friends. Computers - have two, one for legit and one for expressing opinions. Internet - pay as you go. Supermarket loyalty cards - people need to dump them.

The bigger worry are the new smart TVs people are buying, I have warned friends not to walk around naked in front of them. George Orwell's telescreen has arrived. More and more electrical goods are being made for the home with this technology to spy on us. No doubt the Facebook generation will enjoy staring in their own reality show at home. Not me.

Facebook has agreed a deal to buy Israeli facial-recognition company Face.com.

Perhaps you'd like all your deliveries late because the van driver has to look up where every delivery is on a map which doesn't show one way streets and traffic jams.

Sat navs are a very useful tool and if used properly save time and effort. I'd like to see you get around places you don't know in London without one.

The stupid people are those who make work for themselves buying numerous maps and spend hours getting from A to B because they are too thick to use a sat nav. If they had one it would tell them there is an hour's delay on their planned route and find another one for them.

Satnavs were brought up in this thread in the context of being tracked by Big Brother, if people do not wish to be tracked they should not use a satnav. Satnavs do render people stupid because most of them blindly follow orders, there have been countless stories in the news of people driving into rivers and almost off cliffs because their satnavs told them to.

Deliveries, people received deliveries with next to no problems before satnavs came along. If my delivery company wishes to use satnavs for their foreign drivers that is up to them, all that matters is I am not tracked by one in my car. If my groceries are late I am compensated financially, so no problem.

I have been driving around London all my life, when visiting an unfamiliar area I use an A-Z, only takes a few minutes, even without one the road signs are sufficient to get me on the right track.

It's funny you say people who use maps are too stupid to use a satnav, you've provided my first chuckle of the day, thank you!

If you are too paranoid or poor to get a sat nav why don't you try getting up the RAC Route Finder site, putting your starting point and destination and letting it find the quickest way before you go or use your moby to do so?

I can never understand you Luddites who won't use modern technology because you think that someone would be interested in your every move. Who do you think you are, James Bond?

Do you seriously believe Tom Tom and Garmin send the details of everyone who buys their products to MI5? "Oh yes M. Fred Moron of 65 Cráp Street,Muckton has just bought one of our 800 models.Keep on his tail and don't lose him.He may not be going to Tescos but heading for the Iranian border."

Just a point here I have today gone to a local, small, but long established car dealer with cash and paid 5000 for a very low mileage 08 car bottom book of 7500, no trade in and waving the folding definatley worked just pick your places.

Very true, but they'll probably focus more of their resources on surveilling the internet activity of indigenous peoples rather than sustain a failed approach to monitoring the attempts of illegal immigrants to transcend Britain's borders. Easier to watch your own messy lot online indoors than proficiently monitor the improvisational endeavours of illegal immigrants to gain entry to the UK.

I'm not happy about such a huge and widespread intrusion into cyber-privacy, but if you are not doing anything you shouldn't be doing you have absolutely nothing to be concerned about. Some people may no longer be willing to habitually browse beasty-porn sites or visit other embarrassing and disreputable material online, but there are still proxies, and those with sufficient determination and know-how to get round any restrictions imposed on their internet activity shall no doubt do so.

Maybe you struck lucky but a car dealer friend of mine told me even if they take cash they are obliged to provide the name and address of the customer, something to do with money laundering. Even depositing as little as £2,000 into an account draws attention for the same reason.

Oh dear, what an immature response. I don't have a satnav simply because I have no interest in them.
