They are seeking to end "double jobbing?". I think McGuinness is probably resigning his Westminster seat as he sees no point in sustaining a parliamentary place that he doesn't attend. As far as I'm aware, Sinn Fein still operate a policy of abstention and refuse to attend Parliamentary sessions.

I care, there was a time when those who considered themselves left-wing may have advocated for elected members to live on an average workers wage. Not have three wages paid out of the public purse! But then SF is very good at getting elected and moving their agenda along nicely, unlike British Nationalist who seem to have dozens of 'parties' and an inability to build on any success given to them by the people. What ever happened to Revolution and the sweeping away of all that is rotten? oh yes get elected so you too can feed off the flesh of the English. Parasites

If they abstain from taking their seat, do they still get paid, etc etc?

Yes I believe. I know it was challenged. And they get all the expenses. I am not offended that they dont take their seats, I would be happy for the SNP not to take their seats as well to be honest

Surely, if you are elected to represent a peoples in an election, if you don't take your seat you aren't doing your job therefore you should defer to whoever finished second?

If they refuse to take their seats at Westminster then they shouldn't be paid for not taking their seats and all of the expenses that comes with it. If they are resigning their seats and still getting paid, that is equally ludicrous. The British parliament needs to review its calamitous and absurd policy on abstentionist elected members to that British parliament and put things right very swiftly.

If I refuse to go to work, should I still get paid? Should anyone? I don't think so.

I think SF have argued that holding onto to wage's and perks is necessary as they still have their constituents, Unionist and Republican needs to address!

But yes, I think it's a joke and a relic of an Imperial past. Those elected to a Democratic Parliament should be there or change their Parties policies. Why do not SF now withdraw from standing candidates to the Parliament of the Union? I understand that they are doing rather well as a Party of Ireland and they are an Irish Nationalist Party after all! Perhaps they are the New Imperialists!

It's likely to be called for November.

It is worth remembering that, as MPs cannot simply resign their seat, McGuinness will have to appointed to one of the 'legal fiction' jobs in the purse of the Crown, or whatever the phrase is. You may remember the months of sniping and uncertainty which surrounded Gerry Adams' resignation, as he refused to accept that he had been appointed to the Crown position to necessitate his effective disqualification.
This would only be better were it to have tits. And be on fire.
