I wonder why being ex-NF is much more acceptable to those people who claim to oppose ex-BNP members joining the English Democrats?
When i first read that the leader of the One England "Party" was joining the former Political Soldiers of the NF in the National Liberal Party i thought it was hilarious and i still do but i now see the sheer hypocrisy of this move.

As English Dictionary rightly points out, this person and his colleagues/supporters have been slating the English Democrats for accepting genuine ex-BNP members into their ranks, but the likes of Jamie Mccaffery, Mr Nob, Le Chiffre and Anglo Staffs (all OE supporters to one degree or another) haven't said a dicky-bird about this.

Could it be because this is the first advance towards a One England takeover of the NLP?

I think the difference is the BNP members joining the ED are recent, have not changed ideologically and some were quite important whilst any ex-NF person in the NLP seem to be small fry (Williamson doesn't seem to have been a chairman and Harrington not a member for a few years), politically different from ex-colleagues who left over 20 years ago.

My mistake, Graham Williamson became the DEPUTY CHAIRMAN of the National Front in 1986, not the Chairman.

1986 National Front Directorate (after expulsion of other leading NF figures):

Nick Griffin (Chairman); Graham Williamson (Deputy Chairman); Derek Holland; Pat Harrington; Phil Andrews and Joe Pearce (directorate members).

I agree with you Caroline, having ex-NF members or ex-BNP members will taint a party and make it unelectable. We can discuss the rights and wrongs of that (I think it is wrong) but that is the reality of the situation. This is why UKIP have to impose their ban on ex-members of these parties. It isn't right and it excludes some good people but if you don't do it you are handing electoral victory to your opponents on a plate.

I thought One England had repositioned themselves as an English independence campaign group rather than a political party - confused now...

    Brent Cheetham, ex-NF.

Is he still with the Third Way/NLP?

I agree. The Third Way/NLP has only had 22 years to shake of the National Front splinter group tag.

Give them more time and I'm certain that they will do it.

I believe the Third Way has been going for 22 years and still does but now as a 'think-tank' rather than a party. The NLP was formed 5 years ago? Some original members seem to has stayed with the TT and others just with the NLP. The latter has recruited Lib Dem activists (including it's National Secretary) and now One Englanders. Given its policies it seems logical. That all apart I cannot understand why some posters dislike ProudEnglander so much and why it is at all politically relevant?

I am at a loss though as to how you expect a party which admits, in its SOA, that in 2011 membership rose from 21 to 22 to be able to offer much more scope than the party that you are leaving!

As for your point about 'several elected councillors', I am aware that one of its members was elected under another label but I will stand corrected if you could tell me of any councillors elected as NLP!

    But again, best wishes!
That makes it about three or four times bigger than One England at its height in membership!

Obscure liberalism has sounded the death knell of an English Independence party...
