    Default Scotland's Castles for Sale

Scotlands castles are part of the heritage of Scotland, there are so many up for sale, maybe due to disrepair.
My thoughts were, there are so many clans in Scotland and worldwide, why don't they people who own the castles make a society that people can pay for a membership of a clan of the castle, which allows them to visit the castle free of charge, the money can be used to refurbish the castles and open them to visitors, showing the history of the area, do you think it would work?

Thats a great idea! Better than some oil sheikh, dodgy Russian entreupreneur or slumdog millionaire getting them.

Sounds gimmicky. Maybe you should put it to Donald Trump.

If I owned a castle, I couldn't think of anything worse than lots of Americans turning up and "discovering their heritage" while trampling through my home.

As it is, what is the problem with selling them? What is better, selling them to someone who is going to do them up and live in them, or let them turn to dust? What really are these new buyers going to do? Take it away brick by brick like London Bridge and re-erect it in Arizona?

May sound gimmicky, however think how many memberships Ancestory or Genes Reunited have, then consider if it is a gimmick.
Many people research their family tree, I know I did it, I enjoyed visiting different places that my ancestors came from. My mother was a Foster and I traced her family history in Newcastle upon Tyne, and the Foster clan came from Bamborough Castle. My fathers side were Irvings, I traced the family back to Kirkbean in Dumfries, it was interesting, providing the membership fee is reasonably priced people will pay.

I believe it maybe a good opportunity, about 10 years ago I heard the Irving clan met every January in Dumfries for a celebration, it's good for tourism.

They are simply real estate. All this talk of 'heritage' is fanciful nonsense. Bricks and mortar and no more.

Some maybe, some may not, however I see you boycott Israel, therefore you assumptions are contradictory to what you believe.
Why do you boycott Israel, I'm curious?

Why do you think I want to boycott Israel? Do you think it has something to do with the daily persecution of the Palestinians? Or is it simply becase Israel is a serious danger to world peace? What do you think?
