    In the period i was there, no one single person got a job out of it, but figures were massaged, ie people being given a days trial and then sent back to A4E were counted as 'success'.

    Exactly. These modern politicians don't understand economics. If the money isn't used to facilitate productivity then our economy stands no chance of recovering. Productivity creates wealth, not jobs. ‘Jobs’ is like a bad proxy so it skews government policy. People don't need jobs, they need wealth.
