All English speakers are victims of English being the lingua franca of the World. What is the obvious language for English speakers to learn? Youraba? Danish? Latvian? maybe Zulu?

And that isnt the only issue, a massive problem is that wherever we go the locals are keen to practise their English and it is exceedingly difficult (and getting harder all the time)when in a foriegn country to even get to practise your language skills, unless they are alreday at a really high level. It happens all the time when English kids go ona school exchange too, while over *there* they speak mostly English, the foreign parents are eager to try out their, even limited, English skills on the hapless young teenager, the British teachers are ususally far too weedy to insist that the parents must speak their own language all the time, and the parents are so desperate for their own sprog to become fluent in English that they want to promote English speaking as much as possible!

To add to the disadvantage of the English children, the European kids have ususally had far far more instruction in English so are already two to three years ahead in terms of language skills. Then of course when they are over here its 99% English again, though you do get the occasional equally annoying parent on this side of the channel (no doubt Pat will be one in another decade or so) who are eager to show off their linguistic range to the foriegn child by speaking to him in his own language.

This is so true, so many times when I go aboard i hav locals trying out their English on me, also many foreign youth hav the incentiv of learning English because of pop music and American films. Our children start too late learning foreign languages, it needs to be about 5 years old, like my friend's children, not 11-12.

If you find Brits so unpleasant Pat then why dont you just clear off to the country of your ethnic heritage - armed with the benefits of a British education and multilingualism you should easily outpace the locals?

Our children start too late learning foreign languages, it needs to be about 5 years old, like my friend's children, not 11-12.

They are doing a bit at primary schools now, but still to nowhere near the intensity that foriegn child get taught English.

Norway are even teaching PRISONERS English! And all over Europe even disabled people and those with learning difficulties are being taught English - and people call ME a conspiracy theorist and laugh when I suggest that the Rulign Elite are trying to force the whole world to become English speaking and that most of the worlds languages will die out, even such currentlky 'healthy' languages as French and German will go into steep decline over the coming century.

Thats why I dont read the DM as my regular paper! It doesn't negate its value however as an exposer of many unpalatable facts about our ruling elite who are, incidentally , responsible for the minority but still serious problem of alcoholism among British youth, as well as for the evil of mass immigration.
