Expanding Into Germany

The United People’s Party is pleased to announce the recruitment of its first ever member from Germany, Mr. Christopher Wyatt.

A long time supporter of the Party, Christopher has made his intentions known in helping to promote the Party in Germany, assisting in the effort of spreaing the ideals and values which we stand for.

Upon joining the Party, Christopher made the following statement:

“I am half German and half British but with German nationality, currently living in Germany as my step-father is a member of the Armed Forces. Politics has, for a very long time, been a deep interest of mine, along with a number of other subjects. It was the General Election in 2010, however, that really inspired me as I watched the two live debates and followed the three mainstream parties.

Naturally, I have a great love for the British Armed Forces and am constantly paying attention to policies and news from the MoD (e.g. the SDSR). Additionally, I am interested in Foreign Affairs and the department of Energy and Climate Change. Being a geography student, these two departments are of great academic focus and having learned what I have, it is my goal to have my say in future policies.

I joined the UPP primarily because my personal ideals of unity and equality are reflected by the Party, and because I have had enough of the mainstream parties. I believe Britain needs change and the UPP offers that change. There needs to be a balance of the whole political spectrum encompassing equilibrium of left, right and centrist views. In the future I wish to become more involved in the political system of Britain and bring to the table the views of the UPP which represent the general public which a lot of the time are ignored.”

You seem to be publicising every new member you get.Do many leave? What is your turnover? How many members does your party have now?

That’s obviously not true.

We have merely publicised the fact that we have recruited our first member from Germany and their intention to assist us in building the Party.

As of 31st December 2011, the Party had 153 members and registered Party supporters. Although registered Party supporters are not due to be in future Accounts, actual Party membership is nonetheless on the rise.

For the record, we do distinguish between these 2 types of membership in our Accounts and we only specify exact membership figures on an annual basis to the Electoral Commission, as most parties do, who then publish such data on their website along with the Accounts of all other registered parties.

Our financial reserves have gone from a few hundred pounds to well over £2000.00, we have representatives on lower-tier Councils and our first ever election campaign in the 2012 Local Elections saw both our first-time and more experienced candidates win respectable results with next to nothing being spent on it in financial terms.

In short, we are growing in every respect, albeit at a steady rate, and I am very pleased with the progress we have made thus far and look forward to further progress in the near future.

If you have over £2000 in financial reserves why didn't you get better results. £2000 split between 3 small wards would have got better then "respectable" results which by the way an average of 5%-6% is not, merely adequate.

Having money in the bank doesn’t translate into votes.

They are financial reserves, not money that was spent on the 2012 Local Elections.

We only spent £170.88 on the election, quite purposely, to ensure that we had more than sufficient funds to fight future campaigns without having to worry about raising that income later on.

We were only ever going to spend a minimum number of candidates and spend as little as possible in 2012. It was an important event in the Party’s history but we were perfectly aware that throwing money at this campaign was not going to win Council seats, or even guarantee sizable vote shares.

These things take time, planning and the better establishment of the Party in key areas.

This is exactly what we are in the process of doing with leaflet drops planned for July 2012, January 2013 and April 2013 all over Britain but focused mainly in particular Divisions for the Dorset, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Leicestershire County Councils.

On top of the usual activities of local Party members/candidates are undertaking in their local community over the course of the year, we are confident that a major push in 2013 has the potential to deliver some excellent results.
