Default Crackdown on bogus colleges is working!

    Article in Todays Guardian:

    http://dialog.newsedge.com/portal.as...epname=FINSVC&

Appalling how the Guardian is encouraging sympathy for the law breaking owners of thes 'colleges'. Excellent news that fewer students are coming because it is sorting out some of the genuine from the cheats who only want to come here to work and for settlement. Appalling how the Guardian , no doubt to encourage sympathy from the reader, featured a very rare bird, a white s.African, rather than typical Asian, Middle Eastern, S.American or African student. Appalling too the story of the Indian studnet who was excused paying overseaes fees at Coventry university when so many of our own students are struggling. Who knows what his true financial circumstances were? He could well have affluent parents who would pay for him! British people are so ready to believe a foreigners 'sob story'!

I'm not sure what your complaint is, the whole point of the article is to show the effects on some of the students and legitimate colleges, of course its going to be sympathetic.

There are still almost 2,100 'colleges' which have UKBA approval to sponsor non-EU students and it's a very fair bet that a number of those are also bad 'uns who will be disappearing in due course.

It would probably be a fairly safe assumption that any educational establishment which derives the bulk of its students from outside the EU is likely to be suspect, except perhaps for bona fide language schools that offer properly accredited instruction leading to established qualifications.

The problem isnt entirely with the colleges either but that many of the students attending bona fide colleges operating within the requirements of the home office are still working, illegally part time. It is utterly wrong of course that students attending state colleges part time are still allowed to work part time legally, with no monitoring of the hours they may be working in dodgy takeaways and so on. Its way too easy for someone with an official part time job to do extra hours unrecorded. Most of these students arent doign university courses either but lesser courses at various colleges of further education and so on, part time.

At my workplace we had a South Korean student who was permitted to work max 20 hours a week. She told me that she was working another 20 hours a week as well for another company.

But the problem is not just bogus colleges but also legit colleges. If you can gain entry to study at a legit college in Britain then you are a step closer to getting full residency qualification in time. Obviously we end up with a brighter immigrant than a bogus studier but we still end up with another immigrant.

A poster recently linked to the CIMA website a British Chartered Accountancy qualifiication. There are thousands of Third Worlders studying for this qualification in their own countries precisely because it will gain them entry into the West. Australia is the target of 70% of these foreign studiers.
