Default 2013 Local Elections - The Campaign Begins NOW!

    11th May 2012

The United People’s Party, having already proven in the 2012 Local Elections that a small party on a shoestring budget, inexperienced candidates and stiff competition from the mainstream parties can still receive respectable results, is now gearing itself up to fight an organised and effective election campaign in 2013.

With this amount of time on our side, we are hoping to make a meaningful impact in these elections and build on the results we received a mere week ago.

Even as you read this, brand new leaflets, posters and information packs are being designed, prospective candidates are already being lined up and local Branches are continuing to better establish themselves in local communities.

We have learnt a lot in the last few months and we are keen to exploit this newfound knowledge and experience and turn it into electoral victories next year.

Our financial reserves still run into the thousands, our membership base continues to expand and our existing Branches are growing with new ones soon to be set up all over the country.

2013 is as good an opportunity as any to step up and take on the main players in the political arena head on. We can do this!

Is that because there will be far fewer elections next Year?

Elections not scheduled to be held in 2013 (other than by-elections)
    • The 32 London borough councils (next election 2014)
    • The 36 metropolitan district councils (next election 2014)
    • The 201 district councils in two-tier authorities (next election 2014 in the 67 councils where members are elected by thirds, and 2015 in the 127 councils where all members are elected together)
    • 48 of the 49 district councils in unitary authorities, (next election 2014 in the 19 councils where members are elected by thirds, but excluding Bristol, and 2015 in the 30 councils where all members are elected together)
    • Most parish councils other than in single tier counties (next election 2015)
    • The Scottish local councils
    • The Welsh local councils (except Anglesey)

I’m not sure what this trend is that I’ve been seeing recently where people seem oblivious to the fact that 2013 is the year when the County Council Elections are due to be held - perhaps the most important of the Council elections.

The last County Council Elections took place in 2009 and are on a 4 year cycle.

I honestly don’t know why this isn’t common knowledge amongst the politically interested people out there.

What possible difference does that make?

We have made it perfectly clear that we are preparing for the 2013 Council Elections, all the other elections you have mentioned are not at all relevant to that and the fact that there are “fewer” elections next year is of no importance whatsoever.

The 2013 Council Elections are the next in-line and we are readying ourselves specifically for them.
