Gulp, you've just added a new dimension to the man for me. I remember him as a vast shambling, scruffy, squinting sort of guy, and now he has a tragic romantic side too.

However, with his size, he would be an asset in sinking something.

Patrick Moore: “I’m no European – the English are best”

TV astronomer Patrick Moore has expressed some frank views on Germany, and Britain’s other European neighbours, in the latest issue of Radio Times magazine.

“I’m no European,” Moore, 89, told E Jane Dickson. “Why? Go to Europe and look around. The Germans tried to conquer us. The French betrayed us. The Belgians did very little and the Italians made us our ice cream.

“Just look at the world now and look at it when we had a bigger say in it. The English are best. Stand up for England!”
This 17-year old lad, instead of taking up his scholarship to Cambridge, lied about his age to join the RAF where he served the duration of the war.

To my mind he can say anything he blo0dy well pleases. That's his right. And he earned it.

Wasn't he a signatory for hope not hate? I seem to remember him doing something with the reds a few years back.

No idea, but I doubt it - he was chair of the United Country Party sometime in the 70's/80's and is now a patron of UKIP.

Well, if he believes that the BNP are synonymous with national socialists(as is successfully projected), then he would have fallen for all that.

It was really up to the BNP to eject all that stuff, but they never managed to remove the rot. Still, it's all over now anyway, spilt milk and all that.

    I doubt they'd have him.

Sir Patrick attacked over 'racist' comments

"Sir Patrick Moore was accused of racism yesterday after claiming that Britain was being "swamped by parasites".

The astronomer and television presenter made the comment while addressing a pensioners' meeting organised by the charity, Age Concern.

He criticised the amount of Government and National Lottery money given to immigrants, compared with that spent on the elderly.

"We are being swamped by people who come here because we are a soft touch. I know people will say 'racist, racist, racist'," he said."

He's also spoken out against the global warming nutters and green taxes.

Mine too, he made my early interest in astronomy worth the effort. Lily mentioned Sagan. I was very fond of him too.
