Default UK: Surgery Bans patient because of Carbon Footprint

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/ear...footprint.html

(Name Removed), 83, was told to address the “green travelling issues” over her journeys from her home in Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex, to the West Road Surgery. The surgery wrote to Mrs Mulcahy, telling her to register with a new GP within 28 days.

The letter said: “Our greatest concern is for your health and convenience but also taking into consideration green travelling issues. Re: Carbon footprints and winter weather conditions, we feel it would be advisable for patients to register at surgeries nearer to where they live.

"We would be very grateful if you could make the necessary arrangements to re-register at another practice.”
That's the way to show people how fair AGW is. Deny them their basic rights as citizens of this country,

The doctor needs striking off and putting in prison.

Carbon footprints cause lung cancer. This is highly ethical conduct.

    Come now, mbp!
She is not being denied health care.
"We would be very grateful if you could make the necessary arrangements to re-register at another practice.”

The move isn't being demanded. And, even it it was, there is no sound basis for concluding that her basic rights at a different practice would be denied nor any reason to think that the quality of medical would be any poorer.

“Our greatest concern is for your health and convenience but also taking into consideration green travelling issues. Re: Carbon footprints and winter weather conditions, we feel it would be advisable for patients to register at surgeries nearer to where they live.
The "but also" suggests that it is a secondary consideration. The "would be advisable" suggests that there was no ban.

In short, the headline is not only disingenuous, it is just plain wrong based on the article.

I knew a man who loaded a coal-fired boiler and blew a steam whistle every day at 6 am. Pensioners were alarmed.

I dont think I said that, however they are denying her right to use the surgery of her choice.

.. and this bit you left out ..
The surgery wrote to Mrs Mulcahy, telling her to register with a new GP within 28 days
Implies that she has 4 weeks to comply. So it is not actually a request/advice or whatever else you choose to call it; it is a demand or instruction to leave the surgery because she drives a 2 mile round trip to get there and back.

Where we live it is an even loger journey to and from the nearest doctors surgery, would they suggest I found a closer one - even when there isn't one ?

That's what the article claimed was written yet cites this as the actual wording of the letter:
"We would be very grateful if you could make the necessary arrangements to re-register at another practice.”
I'd read that as asking, not telling.

.. and this bit you left out ..
"While we are unable to comment on individual cases, we would like to assure patients there is a procedure GP practices need to follow before they can remove patients from their lists.”
