    Default Tobacco kills bees

[Wider bans for tobacco products could happen when] the Government reconsider its refusal to ban neonicotinoid pesticides, the nerve-agent chemicals blamed for the collapse of bee colonies worldwide...

[Sir Robert Watson, chief scientist at the Department of the Environment], has moved quickly to begin a comprehensive re-evaluation of the Government's stance after two new scientific studies, from Britain and France, strongly linked neonicotinoid use to bee declines.

Research now shows passive smoking has the potential to harm young children in the same room as the smoker – even if the smoker stands next to the open window.

It's about time tobacco was treated with the same respect as asbestos and recognised that its products are widely toxic and removed from the market. Entirely!

Whata load of bloody drivel. The latest anti smoking adverts show a kid surrounded by "passive smoke." Why don't they show the kid standing a bus stop in the same way, surrounded by carciogenic diesel fumes or other forms of air pollution which do far more harm?

We all know smoking isn't good for people but they talk more bálls about passive smoking than anything else. And I'm non smoker.

Where is the logic in keeping one utterly useless dangerous leisure activity because another essential activity is also a health hazard?

    From the American Cancer Society:

Diesel Exhaust – Men with the heaviest and most prolonged exposures, such as railroad workers, heavy equipment operators, miners, and truck drivers, have been found to have higher lung cancer death rates than unexposed workers. Although most studies have found a link between diesel exhaust exposure and lung cancer, some have not.

Secondhand Smoke: At home – Making your home smoke-free may be one of the most important things you can do for the health of your family. Any family member can develop health problems related to SHS.

Children’s growing bodies are especially sensitive to the poisons in SHS. Asthma, lung infections, and ear infections are more common in children who are around smokers. Some of these problems can be serious and even life-threatening.

Think about it: we spend more time at home than anywhere else. A smoke-free home protects your family, your guests, and even your pets.
Multi-unit housing where smoking is allowed is a special concern and a subject of research. Tobacco smoke can move through air ducts, wall and floor cracks, elevator shafts, and along crawl spaces to contaminate apartments on other floors, even those that are far from the smoke. SHS smoke cannot be controlled with ventilation, air cleaning, or by separating smokers from non-smokers.

So you're in favour of banning extreme sports like hand gliding? What about alcohol?

Not if participants don't selfishly and recklessly endanger those around them.

    And alcohol can have benefits...

Petrol and diesel engines are not essential they have had years to find alternatives like bioethanol or electicity, one of the most carcinogenic things around are engines.
Whats the weight of a packet of cigs compared to the weight of fuel burnt in a week, 10,000:1 it puts smoking in comparison.

By the way, cars leaded the entire planet even in the unexplored amazon from leadtetraethyl anti-knock additive. They knew about this and CFC's from aerosols for donkeys years and chose to do nothing becuase of the bung relationships of politics to big business.

In relation to herbicides and pesticides it has single handedly caused the collapse of most of the British wildlife population, remember when Lord Sainsbury was all in favour of G.M foods, this would have allowed Monsanto to have a monopoly on the market with even more of the stuff, roundup being marketed for use on its resistant wheat and barley. And good old Labour would have received a massive bung.

Don't you have your own problems in life without the need to force your fascist opinions on others? Wear a gas mask if you are that paranoid.

John McDonald from Pennsylvannia showed that GM crops had a damaging effect of the bee colonies.
Some alcoholics have a more of a damaging effect on children as they scream on how it's everybody elses fault, as they move to justify their habit.
Some drug addits become paranoid, not being able to cope with life without a hit.
Smokers, smoke to relax, they do not scream at their children, they do not get paranoid, they are more relaxed than most people, they don't damage the enviroment, they don't tend to whinge about other people, they spend less time at the doctors, most cancers are not caused by smoking.

Whinging causes more damage than smoking ever did, whingers, whinge on about nothing so much, nothing gets done, because by the time they are finished, nobody wants to do anything.
