You've got me curious Gram. I only have a passing interest in the Black Metal genre, so am not aware of any 'waves'.
Would be correct in assuming that the first wave comprised bands such as Venom etc who were quite popular in Kerrang etc, and were never particularly scary, and second wave is characterised by the Scandinavian scene, which seems a a lot darker and closer to the real thing?
