The "bovver boot" was the prime foot wear of the skinhead, mainly Doc Martens or steel toe capped army surplus. Brogues and loafers were the prime footwear of the Suedehead which was a later off shoot of skinhead culture. Because the two cults were closely linked so did dress and it would be quite normal to wear bovver boots for attending a football match and brogues for work.

Thank you. I take it the braces were also part of the clothing culture of all skinheads, or was this related to only a section? (I also apologise to skinheads for making the cardinal error of the crucified skinhead on a y rune. I see it was a tyr rune.) How do skinheads relate to Mods? I see the skinhead movement has origins in Jamaican aspects. Doesn't this clash somewhat with the racist skinheads?

I didn't care much for Brogues (or Royals)
To compliment my Harrington jacket, Ben Sherman shirt and Levi Sta-press, I would wear a pair of Loafers.

That pic is close, but no cigar! The sole and the toe were different to that.

These thing tend to run in cycles as fashion does. Mainly youth followed culture as they do any fashion. I think it went Teddy Boy/Rocker, MODS, Skinhead, Suedehead, Punk, Goth, EMO. Probably missed a few.

You can get left wing skinheads too.

Thanks CM. Goths seem to annoy some groups. Is there an ideological reason for this? I am not from any of these cults as my era had the hippies in various forms.
