    I found this.

OK, the scoring for red and green bars is different, but the green bar descriptions seem to be almost the same as here:

User is infamous around these parts / -99999 Points
User can only hope to improve / -50 Points
User has a little shameless behaviour in the past / -10 Points
User is an unknown quantity at this point / 0 Points
User is on a distinguished road / 10 Points
User will become famous soon enough / 50 Points
User has a spectacular aura about / 150 Points
User is a jewel in the rough / 250 Points
User is just really nice / 350 Points
User is a glorious beacon of light / 450 Points
User is a name known to all / 550 Points
User is a splendid one to behold / 650 Points
User has much to be proud of / 1000 Points
User has a brilliant future / 1500 Points
User has a reputation beyond repute / 2000 Points
"...the forum's juvenile delinquent" and occasional user of "coarse language"...

I have 3'499 rep points. And Roadie is somewhere out in the stratosphere, but we have dire forum enemies and repute is entirely subjective isn't it. It means nothing here.

I wasn't trying to prove anything - just found it and thought it might be of interest.

You'd be off the scale (but in a good way) in the forum I quoted from...

My own view is that some of the people on the forum with a large number of green bars are far from being "brilliant" (to use one of your categories). In fact, a few seem to be not very bright at all, maybe even quite dim.

So what does the rep system actually indicate? My view is it indicates the extent to which comments made are popular with certain segments of the forum membership. Nothing more.

I rather think I agree with you.

Just checked the list .. 23 with the maximum 11 bars, 6 with 10 bars, soon to join them, and more in the pipeline.

I think we can forget about the importance of bars ... :-)

I think it very much comes down to attitude. Some posters just seem to wade into threads, with the sole intention of annoying others. You can happily motor ahead with reputation points, whilst disagreeing with other people in a measured manner.

I also find that those who have entrenched views and that are not willing to see other points of view or who keep regurgitating the same old dogma.

Yes probably true. I think the point I was making is that receiving rep points isn't an indicator of "brilliance". Maybe as you say, it should refer to popularity instead.

Oddly enough some of the posters with the most entrenched views can end up with many green bars so I'm not sure what that indicates other than they are popular with other posters with similarly entrenched views.

The fascists who promote unprovoked violence towards those who don't fall inline with their self-hating dogma aren't so bad. It's only really annoying when they come out with claims of being anarchists and stuff, when in fact, they are nothing but state-owned thugs following orders from the political elite.

Still, they've always got victim status. It is everyone elses fault. Change the system....more welfare!
