I wouldn't call this malware. Although a few security exploits are now appearing for Linux systems, these are still quite rare next to Windows problems, and seem mainly aimed at hacking servers.
This could just be the hijacking of links in webpages again, which may lead me to a dodgy site, that will most likely contain Windows viruses, which my own system will laugh at.
It's not doing it now, I closed the window and opened BDF in a new one and it didn't do it again.
On the main BNP page (or any come to that), there is a link (+userame) at the end of each thread title that takes you directly to the last post. This particular one took me to an external website instead of to that last post, and it did it twice in a row.
We've recently seen text being hijacked and linked to external sites, and it seems to be done for advertising purposes, and this seems the same sort of thing. I would say it is being done at the level of the server because it is the admins who have to allow the advertising companies access to the board internals.
I think it's probably the same mechanism that was creating links in text that is redirecting the occasional existing link, but this seems a less open and more worrisome thing. Again though, I would blame the ad companies that BDF are using, it's possible that even these ad companies don't know exactly what their software is doing.
Just want to say that we moderators are aware of these problems and we are looking into them.
This is very good advice. Make sure all of your browser plugins are up to date and remove any unnecessary plugins. You can check your plugins at Mozilla Plugin Check.
It's looks like, after a long hiatus, Endangered has stopped ignoring me and has recommenced his neg-repping. Welcome back man!.... did you miss me?
Just out of interest, why are you no longer ignoring me, is this a sort of back-handed seal of approval?
I can't think of any other explanation.
