We have the Queens Jubilee in June and the Olympics in July, if it is planned correctly we should be able to create jobs and wealth from it, albeit it is only in one part of the country and I would have much rather seen it spread around so everyone could enjoy the full atmosphere.
However, we have mascots to sell which can be turned into the colours of all different countries, we can have flags, banners, arm bands, caps, t shirts etc; so we can all support our teams, hopefully you can buy the accessories so you can change the mascot from boxing gloves, to tennis rackets etc;
Then it is the best seasons for food, hopefully we will have a wide variety of food and drink from all different cultures, and most of the food being produced in the UK, so we can benefit from the food industry.
Then we have the tourist industry, hotels, travel lodges and bed and breakfasts all playing a part in the event we are holding.
We need the people from colleges to get involved in drama on the streets, and dancing so everyone is entertained.
The toilets will need plumbers, we will also need electricians, cleaners, chefs, advertising the list goes on.
Let's not let it go by, we need to put on a show, let's all get involved to make it memorable, this is an advantage at this present time, even the night clubs and pubs will if they want benefit from the Olympics.
We will need to make sure that the tourist industry board has events planned throughout, when people have no tickets for certain games they can enjoy the sites.
The Diamond Jubilee and then the Olympics should be concentrated on,
No but I think it saved the taxpayer some cash and so the cash saved will most likely partly end up as investment money that in turn will create wealth. Your analysis is too simple. The economy is an interactive system. Things don't happen in isolation. Perhaps there was some deal where they build a ship for us and we build something for them. I don’t know, and I don’t suppose you do either.

On 29th February 2012 this question was put to the Prime Minister, and the questioner said the Ministry of Defence does not consider wider issues of unemployment when placing contracts.
The Prime Minister diverted the answer to a different issue, and attacked Labour for not supporting him on trade missions. This was an important question and deserved a proper answer from the Prime Minister.
The prime minister's job is not to worry about every single transaction. Indeed the job of the government is to set the system up properly in which these deals happen. You seem to be completely at odds with the concept of the free market. The free market makes the government's job much easier. We should reduce the amount of money the state has to spend anyway, because these special interest arguments can play havoc on the smooth running of commercial operations. Look at what a disaster British Leyland was. What you are asking for is what causes these problems. I mean should the Ministry of Defence also decide where to place orders on the 'gender balance' of the supplier's company as well? Where does it stop? The MOD is more concerned with our defence, and so it should be. Besides it has much less money now and is in serious trouble. It is actually doing what it should do and taking into account the bottom line first and foremost. MOD equipment in the past has been ridiculously over-priced. For example armoured trucks with a water cannon on it to deal with riots were being offered to us at £4m a vehicle. That's probably well over ten times the real cost.

It seems that Len McCluskey wants to stage strikes at the Olympics, could this be a threat to the private sector, if this is so, then less money is made and less money to put into the public sector, or is he effectively taking the food out of his representatives mouths, because if we do not create any wealth then their will be less people to use the systems, and less money to pay the wages.
You can have demonstrations, however if you want to destroy the economy you serve no purpose for one side or the other, because all you do is slow down the economy, will any government back that idea?
From the last thread, not forgetting all the sporting advertising and goods that will be sold, I need a pair of running shoes, to run the dog, so I will be looking at the new fashions at the Olympics.

Will the Olympics create wealth for Britain ?
Well initially no because we are 9 billion pounds out of pocket setting it up.
There is also some evidence that tourism will be down during Olympics because of the disruption it will cause.
