    Default Daily Mail Censorship

Does anyone ever try and post comments in the Daily Mail? What are your opinions of it? Personally I’m starting to suss something is a bit dodgy. OK there are sometimes reasons why a comment gets censored, which is fair enough. The usual reasons are that it is off-topic; it is offensive (e.g. bad language), it has not been published because it seems the Daily Mail stop accepting comments way before they notify you that they have done so, and of course there are potentially libellous comments. A libellous comment is one that harms someone’s reputation unfairly, as in untrue accusations. It is fair enough that the Mail plays on the side of caution with these because it does not have the resources to check each comment is true, so they will ban factual attacks on individuals.

Right you say, that all sounds reasonable enough. However there is more. There are comments that get censored for many other political reasons. That is not to say you might be a Labour supporter in an ostensibly right-wing paper. Oh no, these get published without a problem, except of course they get massive negative votes. There are other classes of comments that I have established are regularly censored.

One class of comment that I have a problem with are comments that in any way do not pay homage to political correctness. Now this is hypocrisy at its finest if you consider the Mail rants about that. They are in fact more politically correct than any they accuse of being so!

Now the real bone of contention however is the comments that have a degree of understanding and intelligence about them. These are nearly always censored. I was down to about one in three of my comments being published, and that one in three were the ones that were of a more trivial nature, e.g. perhaps comments on fashions and suchlike. To give you an example of one that was not published today in an article about the government trying to save the euro I said two reasons the euro was bad is firstly the EU regulations on business. Now that would have been in the realms of publishability, but the second comment knocked it out. I said the reason for the failure was because the euro artificially increases the credit rating of member states beyond that of a free market floating currency system, thereby causing them to borrow more than they would otherwise be able to borrow. Well that is it in a nutshell. However, as is mandatory in the Mail, such comments are disallowed. The conclusion drawn is the Mail is trying to dumb the population down. It is therefore part of the problem, and as such it is part of the police state that is being built before our very eyes (or not, as the case may be!)

If you have tried to publish a comment in the Daily Mail that has been censored, I would very much appreciate it if you could post it below together with the time you posted it and the link to the article. Just check that it was sent within the time of the last comment published, and that it is not illegal in some way, because we don't want to get Anthony into any trouble.

I do, and I am currently in the top 6 best rated comments on one of their scurrilous lying stories about benefit claimants. I think Leveson has got them quaking in their boots.

I get as many censored as get through but ALL of the media and press are scared s.h.1.t.less about the word Unum, with the noteable exception of Private Eye.
(The goverments e-petitions website will not even let Unum into the rejected petitions list. (I have an official complaint in about that with the Department of Work and Pensions via my MP.)

Yes I have noticed the Daily Mail is in full attack mode on the jobless and the disabled. They don't ever worry that all their celeb gods and goddesses get paid millions for dumbing us down, but if you happen to be at the bottom of the stack with no job and no prospects then its the workhouse for you as far as the Daily Mail is concerned. Even their most loyal readers are often a tad unhappy about the hostility and the deliberate propaganda here. They will search their files for the most extreme example and then try and paint it as the norm, as per the family with 14 children. If you check the statistics, the percentage of claimants with over 4 children is minimal and in no way counts as huge money drain.

If you check the statistics the number of women in the population with 4 children is minimal. The average age at birth of first child is now over 30 years old.
The other type of comment of mine that gets censored out of the Mail comments is when I shoot one of their lying articles down in flames with actuarial data.

If Baron and Unum are as prolific as here and Mail has limited page space maybe they want snappy, populist comments from one-off subscribers. Unum gets 50% which is astonishing.

Unum gets 50% of what please? How did you come up with that figure?

The Mail on Sunday and the Daily Mail are as vile as the News of the World was in a different way. Their constant alteration of the facts, often with the connivance of the DWP which encourages them buy publishing the figures in a distorted way in the first place, is disgusting.

It's really time there was some sort of concerted effort to stop their propaganda against benefit claimants. I'm pleased to see the Daily Mail was forced to publish a correction for repeating the lies about Motability claimants which first appeared in the Mail on Sunday.

Daily Mail corrects Motability error lifted from Mail on Sunday | Full Fact

Paul Dacre and Peter Wright are the Lord Haw Haws of the DWP. Perhaps it's time a thread was published about them and they got some adverse publicity.

Contact details are here but I doubt if they would listen.A different approach is needed.

"I get as many censored as get through". Ask Baron, he does maths.

That is the idea of this thread, to give the Mail a taste of its own medicine. Like I said at the beginning, if something you post gets censored for dodgy reasons please post it here. Liars are bad enough, but those who preach pseudo-morality on top of their lies are even worse.

Actually there is a bit of a debate going on at Con Home about benefits and should that have risen in line with the CPI inflation index. It seems the Cons are at odds with IDS who calls them feckless along with the Mail. Attacking the weakest in our society and shying away from confronting the real enemy, the EU, is the stuff of the gutless. Many unemployed can’t get jobs because the very same fascists chuck their CVs in the bin because they don’t conform to the ridged specification of the fascist state, not because they can’t or don’t want to work.
