Not if our service industry is the best in the world and if we have plenty of people willing to hire said services.

I'm probably very old fashioned but I think no Country should rely on "Johnny Foreigner", for life's essentials, such as food, power and defence! Surely to be a successful trading Nation you need to be manufacturing what other Countries want. We need pen pushers and the odd paper shuffler, but nowadays that's all we appear to have!

I totally agree kernow.

I do wonder if the government squandering millions on un-needed bureaucracy, the EU and quangos makes the situation ten times worse as well.

Anyone can go onto youtube and watch "Dark secrets inside bohemian grove" if they wish.

Never seen the second picture before - not too much into illuminati symbolism(not saying it's bad to be or you are either

I would also prefer a situation where we grew enough essential foods here in the UK to feed our own population. Luxury foods can be imported, that is not a problem.

We should aim to be self-sufficient in power and Nuclear can provide that.

Defence is the primary reason we suffer the existence of the state, so indeed it should defend our borders properly.

However to be a successful nation we could be a net importer of manufactured goods and have a service and information economy. We'd have to be very determined and very efficient to be able to produce more and higher quality information than the new superpowers though.

Ultimately a varied economy would be best.
