What does "a Mum and a Dad only" mean?

Does it mean a married woman and man (with or without own children)?

Married man and woman would be my preference - not totally ruling out other possibilities.

In principle the churches should be able to use their own judgment (within limits) according to their beliefs, provided they are not taking state money to run their adoption agencies (which they do).

This issue would be a good one for a referendum to decide. (Not one for the EU, gold-plated by NuLabour.)

I've just voted combo! I support the Roman Catholics in their stance but I also have no problem with homosexual couples exercising their rights under the law. I can see virtually no possibility of a gay couple, having been vetted, being anything other than good at the parenting. However, that does not imply that I think those that believe in Catholic teaching should be pilloried for standing by their beliefs. The two views on life can co-exist in society even if there is no common ground on "discrimination"!

Would have voted Mam and Dad but it wasnt an option so had to go for the Southern option "mum and dad".

I would've voted "Non-religious nutters only" if it wasn't for the fact bigotry isn't owned by religious institutions.

Minimum requirements; Compassion. Situation in which care isn't a strain. Intelligence.

I voted a combo, if everything was completely equal and there were only two choices then I would have voted a male and female couple. However adoption by its very definition is simply individuals offering to care for a child who has no parents or has parents not able to look after them. That doesn't have to incorporate couples, sexuality or religious/political beliefs per se, all it involves is a judgement on who the best person is to look after the child. The sexuality of the couple adopting the child should be a factor that's considered in making that judgement rather than the basis for some centralised state to issue guidelines. Organisations (including the Catholic Church) should be left to make the decisions themselves.
