Round figures, that's 40 hours surfing time, or a week's work for someone. This assumes of course that the websites are up to date! Any volunteers? PS And of course it would need to be done regularly to be kept up to date..... |

It is likely there is a central website somewhere which has all or most of this info. Otherwise Yup, its a big job for each RO to organise in his region, say a volunter for a week in each region to get & put all the info in usable form, but alleviated in say the 20% of local authorities where UKIP has an active branch, who will have all the info. Surely ROs have most of this info already ( If not , why not ?). anyway start at County & Unitary Authorities as UA Districts dont have County councils. At these levels there will be fewer Councils than constituencies . It gets more difficult when you get down to Town & Parish Council, but lets be realistic where there aint an active branch, what is the likelyhood of UKIP having any candidate at such a level let alone any councillors !
What do other parties do ? |

I may have been too generous in stating that UKIP had 10 District/Borough Councillors (compared with the Green Party's current tally of 92 and the BNP's 52).
I included Eileen Braithwaite from Newcastle-under-Lyme (who may be a UKIP member) as a UKIP Councillor. However, the results when she was elected - as shown on Newcastle-under-Lyme's current website - were as follows: SILVERDALE AND PARK SITE Name - Party ALBINSON, JAMES STEVEN - CON 75 BRAITHWAITE, ElLEEN - CARING PARTY 323 CAIRNS, GEORGE O'KANE * - LAB 311 CORNES, JOHN DENNIS - LIB DEM 83 ELECTED: Braithwaite, Eileen (Caring Party) Eileen Braithwaite therefore represents the Caring Party on the Council, *not* UKIP. Therefore UKIP has only 9 District/Borough Councillors, not the '30 to 50' that they claimed to the BBC (see earlier in this thread). Unless I am corrected - and there has not been a single challenge to date to the facts in my original posting - the 'UKIP Councillor' tally must be revised downwards to 9 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

Have you told them of your demand at UKIP HO?
How long did it take you to check results with every Authority in the Country? Did you check and authenticate the numbers for the Greens and bnp? Do you update the results you got, daily or weekly? It's interesting that someone has finally done this study on "Present UKIP Councillors". Well done, and thank you. |

ANSWERS TO HARTLEPOOL:
Have you told them of your demand at UKIP HQ? REPLY: No How long did it take you to check results with every Authority in the Country? REPLY: All I did was check the claims posted by Tom Wilde on another thread Did you check and authenticate the numbers for the Greens and BNP? REPLY: Yes, it's very easy to do, because - unlike UKIP - both parties list their Councillors publicly on their websites. You can then simply visit the websites of those councils. Incidentally the Greens have over 10 Councillors in Oxford and the BNP over 10 in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham Do you update the results you got, daily or weekly? REPLY: No, nothing like that. My interest is in why UKIP publishes false and evasive information about its true number of Councillors. With all its paid staff, it is not lack of resources that stops them telling the truth on this issue It's interesting that someone has finally done this study on "Present UKIP Councillors". Well done, and thank you. REPLY: Comment noted with thanks ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

http://www.newcastle-staffs.gov.uk/C...XAF09-A77F9929 Like Hartlepool, I appreciate the effort you have put into fact-checking our UNOFFICIAL list of UKIP councillors. I do think (if you don't mind me saying so) that you are slightly too ready to accept as gospel anything that appears on any page of a council website. Sometimes the info on their websites is self-contradictory, or one page of a website is more up to date than another page of the same website, as in this case. Another example: in your opening post on tnis thread, you rule out one councillor on these grounds by refering to the North Devon District Council website: Quote:

Maybe I was even wrong to include Michael Pagram as a UKIP Councillor? If I may return your comment, conceivably you are a trifle too ready to accept dubious evidence that someone is truly a UKIP Councillor?
See this exchange on 7 September 2006 on this Forum: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tom Wilde - Senior Member Joined: 21 Sep 2004 - Posts: 1672 Location: London. "More UKIP, more freedom!" Posted: Thu Sep 07, 2006 5:17 pm Post subject: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A while back somebody asked me whether the three UKIP district councillors in North Devon in the list at the start of this thread really are still UKIP, as they now sit as part of a larger group of independents. However, this letter by Cllr Michael Pagram in yesterday's North Devon Gazette shows clearly that he is still very UKIP. Great letter, too! It's about the South West Regional Assembly. I won't repost it here as that would take us too far off the subject of this thread. I'll just say it is always nice to see a UKIP district councillor writing an intelligent and effective letter to the local press. http://www.northdevongazette.co.uk/n...A16%3A37%3A510 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ andypandy - Full Member Joined: 13 May 2006 - Posts: 698 Posted: Thu Sep 07, 2006 5:36 pm Post subject: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have read the gentleman's letter, and nowhere in that letter does he either say he is a member of UKIP or even sign it as a UKIP councillor. He just states at the very end of his letter, in one sentence, that UKIP is very much part of the UK political scene, but does not clarify what he personally means by that. As such, the letter is a wasted opportunity to promote UKIP, instead of which, he attacks the big three parties and the EU, and reduces the mention of UKIP to an afterthought. No doubt the letter is excellent, but why are 'UKIP' councillors so unwilling to identify themselves as such, and opt for the easy option of classing themselves as independents? Why does UKIP allow its elected members to sit as independents and not under the party banner, especially if a fuss had been made making the public aware of a UKIP connection at some previous time? Does this suggest that UKIP consider the party name a liability in local elections? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
