Supermarket giant is now jumping on the car park fine bandwagon claiming it wants to 'clampdown on parking cheats' but it is likely that its' attempt at using Judge Dredd tactics will backfire.


The solution to errant parking is a simple one and it comes simply with a stern public warning from a trained Asda customer services employee. Simply announce over the tannoy that 'car x' is in a disabled bay without a badge and issue Asda 'mother and toddler' permits for customers.


The problem of going down the 'fine' route as that it is not a parking ticket as such, but a breach of a civil contract that the driver agrees to enter into when seeing the signs in the car park.


However, if the driver does not pay the firm tasked with issuing the fines ( Town and City Parking) will request the Registered Keeper details from the DVLA. There lies the trouble ... the Registerd Keeper may or may not be the driver, and is under no obligation whatsoever to identify the driver.


Once the criving population gets wise to this none of these 'civil contract' fines will be paid.


Then the problem remains.


So, Asda, stop being Judge Dredd and looking for a short term financial fix and using companies which will put their profit before Asda customers and go down the social and moral responsibility route with your own staff.
